I think the AF will hold up to most things....I even threw on the 1.4TC and shot the swallows....
Also the RWBB shot above was with 1.4TC and it was a very quick reaction where the bird came out of nowhere at very close range and I zoomed back and fired...4 shots out of 6 were nice and sharp with the bird almost off the frame (due to my slow panning).

Haven't done a direct, controlled comparison yet but at this point I can say that I wouldn't consider IQ to be an important factor in deciding between these two lenses.

It's generally accepted that extenders should be avoided on slower zoom lenses, but this new 200-600 seems to not only do ok with a 1.4, but even a 2X! I mean good grief, it appears to give better results with a 2X than the Nikon 2X between a 500 f/4E and D850!
I would assume then that the 2X on the Sony 600 f/4 is going to outperform the Canon 2XIII on Canon's best glass & bodies.
You and Tony are killing me with all these great images. I'm number two on the waiting list at a local store here in Nashville, and the anticipation is torture. Nice work guys.

A realization. I've gifted the 100400GM to the she-ruler here. Haven't touched it since the 200600 arrived.
Put the 100400 on the a6400 and handed it to her, wow what a weight shock compared to the R3/a9+200600.
If portability/mobility/packability/abject weighty are important then think long and hard about the 200600. And as much as I hate the ergo's of the a6xxx series, for wieldability nothing beats it.
She went straight for the flower garden and quickly nabbed a Carpenter Bee on a flower....something harder to do with the larger zoom.
