Not that weird when it comes to Samyang unfortunately. They do this WAY too often adding firmware and removing it shortly afterwards without explanation 😱

Didn't they do that with the AF 35/1.4 FE as well?
So sitting on back patio and honestly the fastest most accurate focusing is is AFC. I’m not sure we ever need AFS if your using a back focus button just let go for same as AFS. But if you are outside with decent light you can go all day long focusing stop down with effects on and when you get to lower light than go effects off. It just seems to work the best liking these operations. I normally use just AFC anyway but with this lens AFS still seems a touch slow and AFC seems faster. This is with the new firmware. I’m actually pretty happy and you all know how picky I am. Now if they put up a newer firmware I’ll update. I tend to think it’s a little noisy and maybe they got complaints. But that’s a assumption and you know what they say about that. Maybe as others update they may see what I have posted so far on it. Love to hear other opinions for sure. I’m keeping this lens. I’m finding I really like the look of it over the 85 1.8 out there Sony and Batis it may not have the rocket speed but it is pretty good. At least in my eyes. If you asked me what to get even given my troubles with this brand I’d say buy it. It looks like the GM acts more like the 1.8

Seems like a lot of faffin around. Batis works great
But the rendering is better on this lens in my opinion. So I'm willing to give them some time

I must have grabbed the Firmware friday before it was removed.
It installed fine, and the lens performed great for a photoshoot for a knifemaker on Saturday.

In order to fully test lens firmware, depending on advertised compatibility, you have to
test on
NEX-xx, a5xxx, a6xxx, a7xx, a9
Not only that, you have to test on multiple body firmware varieties of each camera, since that is what's out there in the wild, and of course multiple AF settings types and modes for each.
So you are looking at probably 50 setups minimum, probably several hours each if you want to be really comprehensive. Not an easy job!

I just ordered the Rokinon again. Hoping for a better copy so I can do a formal model photoshoot alongside the GM.
Would be nice to get a copy of the 85mm 1.8 as well for the test. I will see if I can get my hands on one.

Lovely pictures, thank you!
So you're still happy with the lens, right?
I'm looking forward to having mine (next week hopefully).
What I don't like from the pics I see is the transition zone at mid distances, like in your first picture. It kinds of look like an old lens for how it draws in focus to out of focus areas, it doesn't feel as "clean" as other lenses. Do you know what I mean?
