Dumb question but wouldn't the Rokinon lens station work with the Samyang lenses. They are the same right? B&H has the Rokinon in stock.
Editing this whole post. I'd heard of trouble before using Samyang or Rokinon branded firmware on the other lens... but plugged my Rokinon lens in, and it brought up the Samyang download link, installed it no problem.
Quick test in my office, seems more sure and a bit quicker. The occasional delay or slow focus that did look like some of those video AF examples was gone as far as I can tell. I doubt its still a 85/1.8 competitor but I think folks are going to like this speed, especially with the MkIII cameras.
Awesome! I'm glad it worked! Mathieu18 wrote:

That's all good news. I figured as much but this appears to be the first Samyang lens I keep, at least for awhile Have a station coming tomorrow. Thanks
2 questions. First, is there any reason to get the Rokinon 85 instead of Samyang 85, or vice versa? Second, do I need one of their lens stations for upgrading firmware or can it be done through the camera, and is there any downside to using the camera other than slower process?
Between these two different brands, aren’t they both made in the same factory? It’s the same Lens, it just has a different name on it if I recall correctly.

Its the old running joke Todd . One made in the front of the factory the other in the back. But yes they are just rebranded naming for different markets I am assuming. Maybe in some countries the naming may actually mean something with regards to status
But yes you can use either brand. My lens is Rokinon actually
Should be noted when looking at B&H and Adorama to buy these look for both brand names. Sometimes they have one and not the other is stock

BTW Adorama has some lenses you can buy as a kit with the lens station. I think under Rokinon naming. I almost bought the 35 2.8 this morning as the dock was 30 dollars more than the lens alone

Ha! , I know I just didn’t pick up on the sarcasm directly. Don’t know you well enough evidently to realize you were joking.
Thanks

Frequently different pricing as well. Pays to search for both brands while shopping.

Just had a minute to play with the lens more. Aside from better in general I think it's MUCH better near MFD as well which will help a lot. Seems pretty rock solid and consistent at grabbing focus and it's not the greatest light in here though it's not dim either.
Otherwise I'm all set now, and changed the focus speed on the 35/1.4, so if anyone needs a loaner dock and you're an established member I'm willing to let someone borrow it. Handy to have around but don't think I'll need it for a couple weeks.

Sounds great
I’m shooting screens in a cockpit right now with small extension tube in crop mode. Looking great. I can’t get close . I’m about 2ft. Can’t set tripod closer

Did you lower the focus speed? How about there other settings in the software, anything useful?

I did, and seems okay but I might play with it more sometime. If you move the ring real slow it basically doesn't register movement. I'm wondering how it'll be if I set it to fast instead of slow.
Otherwise there's focus adjust, user guide and firmware, nothing else useful I saw.
Oddly my 35/1.4 was showing -1 focus adjust but I never set that so don't know where that came from. Changed to 0 and will keep and eye on it.

Tried 26mm tubes myself yesterday. Does help MFD a good bit, maybe around a foot and a half. AF seemed fine as well.
