Had a chance to review them finally. I was admittedly on the fence but like the 35/1.4 I'm a fan, count me in.
Took a few shots of my daughter this morning (sorry, don't share my kids) on the A7RII 7/9 hit Eye-AF. The ones that missed were close ups (2/4 there). So I stand by my thought that the lens struggles with AF near MFD. MkIII bodies might be better.
Otherwise its sharp enough for me in the center wide open (donkey crop below). Bokeh isn't bad at f/1.4, seems to smooth out a bit more starting at f/1.7. Good separation, with basic edits and the colors / contrast come to life and should match well with the 35/1.4.
Looks nice I have no doubt it will act like the GM 85 at 1.4 and get very nice at 1.8 like both the Sony 50 1.4 and GM 85 1.4 . I知 talking center resolution. Bokeh looks nice. I like it so far. My priorities on this lens maybe far different than others. I知 not the biggest fan of the bokeh on the Batis and Sony 1.8 lenses , so I知 hoping it痴 better here and all I really want in AF is to be faster than the GM 85. If it痴 at the same speed as my 50 1.4 I知 kinda okay with that. Another reason is I will have the Sony 135 and I use that far more often than a 85. I know the AF speed is there on the 135.
I think you will see this as a alternate to the GM at much lower cost and I can understand that. I知 kinda of looking at it more as a replacement for my Sony 85 1.8 maybe not the AF speed but certainly the look. But will see I have had my troubles with this brand and swore them off, so I知 skeptical. But buying new I can return and get the Sony 85 again if I have too. No big deal at all

How is the AF speed on this lens? I saw that Korean video and it looked a tad on the slow side, just not quite the snap that I was expecting.
He is on a A7rII which does not really answer the speed issue for us A7RIII, A7III and A9 users. So by Friday the latest we should have better answers. One of our members gets it tomorrow and has the faster AF bodies. I know he will test it immediately as he is traveling soon
Guy's right, I'm on an A7RII, that video looks like a MkIII camera.
That said, mine seems a bit better than that video. Not blazing fast, but quicker to grab, especially if you have good contrast in what it's focusing on. Also that video is pretty close focus and that seems to slow it down and confuse it more.
Still, look forward to Guy,Fred and Gabriel's thoughts on AF.

Between the 3 of us at least with the later bodies we should have a better idea on AF speed and a Gabriel gets his Wednesday. I believe he has the GM 85 in hand now as well.
I値l be testing mine against my 50 1.4 for resolution for sure and if it beats my 50 in AF speed I will be thrilled

How does that accuracy compare on the A73 with something like the Sony 85 1.8?
I also question some of those images he labels as good.
I don't have an A7III to comment. But on the A9, I know for sure the Sony 85/1.8 wouldn't have that mis-focus at the beginning for further distance. But yes, it's always best to compare them side-by-side to know for sure. This is certainly a harder test than the like that Manny Ortiz has done with a slow walking model.

Thanks for the sample pics and comments.
I mostly dig the rendering. Not quite sure yet, what I dislike, but I'm 90%+ on it.

I dont expect any samyang to be as fast as the 85 on an A9, but that video shows that it's pretty usable IMO. Kid is very tightly framed and the hit rate at that distance is pretty demanding. Looser framed likely wont have issues, sort of like the SY 35 and 50. I think the lens will do well, samyang seems to learn from their mistakes, even the crap 50 1.4 is pretty usable after firmware updates. The 35 has even better AF, and I'm thinking that the 85 will be a notch above their previous offerings.
from the sample video, I dont think the 85GM could do much better.
