I like my A7RII better than the A7III to be honest, but it is a bit cooler over all, especially with the Ambience AWB. So the Sam/Rok color cast is a bit useful for me!
But understand where you’re coming from. I’ll probably build dual illuminant profiles for these eventually.

I actually like the rendering from the images I've seen. (minus the warm cast)

Exactly, Dustin is a decent reviewer, but the way he splits his reviews could actually be frustrating, especially for subscribers. I told him in a comment before that his channel deserves a lot more subscribers, given the quality of his reviews and the amount of work he puts in them. In my opinion, the length of the videos along with the way he splits them turns a lot of people away from his channel. But he's a nice person nonetheless.
I follow his channel specifically because of his thorough reviews. There's far too many reviewers out there who leave out important information about whatever they're reviewing. Dustin doesn't do that, which I appreciate.

Which he had the GM. I hate that he always split the reviews like this with the first look when I wanted already to see the IQ test...no patience here.
It's probably beneficial for his channel that he spaces out his reviews. The YouTube algorithm prioritizes channels with consistent and frequent views, so if he uploads smaller videos three times a week that people view consistently, he gets more views more often than if he uploaded one long video once a week, making it more likely that YouTube will recommend his videos to more people.
I have always been interested in the 85 GM, but the cost has kept me away. I got the Sony 85 1.8 and love the size/autofocus/performance of that lens. The Samyang peeked my interest because of the price and size. I usually buy my lenses after people have reviewed them and used, but the whole 24mm GM wait debacle (just got it today) and Tamron raising the 28-75 price has caused me to not only buy the 85mm new, but to pre-order it to avoid a potentially long wait or price increase (Amazon scared me with their initial $799 price). All that to say the lens will be here Thursday. I was hoping to have seen some reviews here before my lens shipped to give me the opportunity to cancel, but oh well. Even if i like it I don't know if i'd get rid of the 85 1.8 because it's so small and it is not expensive.

Again shot with a A7rII which don’t tell us much with regards to AF speed. I see CA 1.4 on center but looks pretty good at F2. I’m actually okay with F2. Really the Sony 50/85 1.4 are basically the same on center gets great at 1.8. I do like the look though and it looks to me it’s nicer than my Sony 85 1.8 so right there makes me happy. Bokeh balls obviously cats eye at 1.4 but like to see at F2 and F2.8 my bet it will round out. One thing of concern is the flare so we have to look at this. My comments are related to this later video posted above. Looks to be positive at this point. Will see

I'm sure the AF will be as advertised by Christopher frost. SY figured how to make the 50 work via firmware, and while it's not as good as native, it's pretty darn usable with the latest update.
that said, I wouldnt compare these lenses to native sony if you need really quick AF. Native sony will smoke them in an apples to apples shootout.

Well, in my case, I just need to be faster than the GM 85, no need to be like the speed demon 85/1.8. They said they used 2 AF motors to drive one freaking element. It should be extremely fast.

Same for me. I can be a little slower than the Sony 85 1.8 but faster than the GM 85. I need speed than my 135 will work.

At $699, this lens does not need to be faster than the GM equiv. to be successful as long as rendering and overall resolution is decent. (Which imo is actually great)
I can already tell it will have a more pleasant rendering (subjective) compared to the FE 85/1.8 which I'm not a big fan.

You know the 85/1.4 GM pretty well. What are your first impressions of the new Samyang in comparison?
Sorry, it has been a frustrating day here with a late winterish Storm and high winds that brought down some powerlines so have been without internet on my PC most of the day.
On top of that I am leaving in a few days to Puerto Rico so with the limited time I had, I did as many tests as possible when the weather allowed me.
Still trying to analyze the data and just creating a video of it at the same time hoping to be able to upload something soon.
AF I really cannot tell much difference vs the GM except in low light it noticed an extra pulsating focus on the Rokinon.
Sharpness wise, it seems that the Rokinon is actually sharper wide open in the center and some areas but my Rokinon has some strange top right area where images just look like double. You will see in some samples.
The GM does have smoother bokeh as expected which I can see specially in some foliage and how it seems to have another "layer" of 3D to the image in some shots but really, so far I think the Rokinon is darn impressive and when you consider the price difference..even more.
The color cast its pretty strong but nothing that shooting with my ColorChecker cant change.
Will I sell my 85mm for the Rok and use the money to get the 135mm GM...not sure. I feel more like keeping both but I would be tempted to try another copy of the Rok to see if it does not have that strange blur side.
As soon as I get back internet I will upload stuff :/

I'm super tempted to pull the trigger on this... flare could be an issue though, Dustin's video showed it a bit, and the Korean one we've seen a few from also shows it flares a lot in certain circumstances: " target="_blank" rel="nofollow">
Having said that, I've noticed that there's now a £60 cashback offer showing at Wex, bringing it down to £539...

That sounds more like the EF version pricing, just be sure. I like the lens though.

my SY 50 1.4 has a strikingly similar flare, and hood solves the problem...... I hate using hoods, so I tend to simply leave it in, try different angles, or use my hand to block out the sun.
I'm hoping SY will discount this lens like they did their other lenses to laughable price levels, makes it even easier to acquire and keep. I got the 35 f1.4, 50 f1.4, at $400 each. Prior to firmware updates, at $400, it wasnt even worth the headaches, however these days, the AF is pretty good with the latest firmware, so I've decided to get all the SY fast lenses. Super duper value, and some like the 50 and 85 are sensible size for what they are. 35 is still too big, but 2/3 is good progress! I hope they make a 24 and 135 (would love to ditch my Art lens), the large aperture is just fantastic for people photography.
