The basically same price A1 further puts this camera in the "stupidest photographic thing ever conceived", no surprise that hardly anyone is biting in..
Personally I think that even at half that price will be a tough sell, let's see how long it will take to get there
Stopped reading after they said the lens is the same as the one on the Sonnar. Whatever you think of Zeiss and this camera, the complete absence of thought needed to write such a sentence is pretty breathtaking.

From the DPReview samples, the ZX1 lens seems incredibly sharp - significantly better than the RX1R II, Leica Q2, Ricoh GR III, Fuji X100V, etc. My general takeaway having tried a few of these is that all of these cameras are flawed and largely afterthoughts in their manufacturer's lineups and not worth the MSRP. The Leica Q2 and Ricoh GR III are I think the two cameras closest to perfection in this genre.
I've concluded that if I can accept the compromises that any of these cameras bring, then something like the sony 35mm f2.8 makes a lot more sense to me.

Some time ago I wrote here that sharpness is overrated. I still think it is, although I value sharpe lenses. But there are so many sharp lenses around - and a compact camera is so much more than a lens...
ZX-1 seems just a not very well executed camera. Actually the design might be somewhat flawed from beginning, although I admit that it has (some kind of) style. In fact the whole large sensor fixed lens compact camera market has unusually many products that are not photo centric and functional. Very strange since the idea of 28/35mm fixed lens compact all about being functional and photocentric.
After shooting with many of these cameras consider Fuji X100v and Leica Q2 the only sensible products in this category - and if I think of price, that leaves of Fuji. RX1r2 and GRIII come potentially close but they are not as balanced cameras as Fuji X100v is - and bit had miserable batteries. Sony is also a very old product just hanging around there until the successor is introduced.
How come manufacturers can get this camera category so wrong? Please Sony show what you can do! Curved sensor or not, we will buy it if it comes with Z-battery and the price is at least remotely sensible

German photographers Krolop & Gerst have published an extensive review of the ZX1. Their assessment of the overall workflow is positive, though they also mention some shortcomings. Also, they say, for example, that a number of mobile phones with "open" USB-C ports are considered water-resistant, and thus the widely shared assumption that the "open" USB-C port would render the camera useless in bad weather might not be correct. Their video "Innovation, tradition and future - Long term review of the ZX1" is in German language.

In English, this video—no matter what its content—would be described as Beating a Dead Horse.

BH already has 3 returns as low as $4500. We may see fire sale pretty soon. Once hitting $3000ish it may be interesting especially if Zeiss keeps up with the updates.

If it ever drops to X100V money I’d consider buying one as a goof and selling it after playing with it for a while. 20 seconds to boot up?

Firmware updates shouldn’t be a problem, given the steady release of new Zeiss mirrorless lenses over the past couple of years.
