You know you have a problem when Leica doods have a problem with the price.

YUP. Makes zero sense. Definitely a camera that could only be released in 2020.
Jman13 wrote For my thoughts, if the fixed lens compact is both the same size or larger, as well as significantly more expensive than an interchangeable lens camera with a similar lens affixed, then what's the point of the fixed lens camera? You're paying extra money to be locked into a single focal length, and not even gaining any compactness in the process.

To paraphrase one of my favorite quotes from this forum:
If your car costs more than your camera, you've got your priorities f*cked up.

not that would make it perfect but they should've put Wifi 6 and an optional eSIM model (maybe 5G) then you really would have something powerful, it could basically do real time shoot and upload
and hope Adobe is including this camera for their new upcoming standard camera app they are developing with former Google Pixel engineer I really want to see what computational photography can do on top of a FF RAW file

If you like zeissimages.com I will have a Zeisszx1.com and zeisszx.com up after I get a few shots to add to the gallery. Should be an interesting camera to say the least. Deserves a niche photo site

Yeah, but its fixed. So kills that as a positive for me.
Personally I think they would sell more if this was a Sony mount interchangeable lens body. And forget the whole "compact" idea. Then take 2k off the price. Just me though.
The Adorama video also had some portraits that showcase the bokeh:
My initial impression is that the lens rendering looks every bit as nice as the RX1's, but I can't peep the RAW samples at the moment.
I also noted it comes with a custom all-black Peak Design Slide Lite strap, which is great.
The UI looks very fast, built on a version of Android. This camera obviously has CPU power more along the lines of a smartphone/tablet. I wonder how stripped down the version of Lightroom this thing runs is. Can you do more advanced things like: save custom presets, sync edits across photos, clone/heal, brush edits, graduated edits, etc? Or is it just the basics they showed like exposure, contrast, saturation? I'm not sure what is available on the phone/tablet versions of LR these days.
I also agree that this should have been sim-ready. Tethering the sharing/syncing aspect to wifi somewhat defeats the purpose.

The idea is appealing, but just not at this price point. It's dead on arrival pretty much, which is a shame given the R&D Zeiss put into this. The polish and quality is clear as day, but do people really want to shoot the way they envision?
It's quite suspicious they didn't send it out to the regular review folks or youtubers. That either means that think the product will speak for itself or that this isn't meant for most pro-sumers.
Zeiss should just sell the lens alone, maybe that'll do the trick instead of the posh camera experience

Looks better than I thought it would in terms of functionality. Pretty slick. That said, the ergonomics don't appeal to me at all, I'd rather have a few more buttons for key features that I always use. I interact with enough touchscreen devices in a day. I still don't get the obsession with forcing me to use the camera to do everything when I have a better computer in my pocket. And no card slot. Ugh. So much wrong with that for me.
But the lens looks fantastic, IQ as well. This has mostly made me lust after an RX1R II...

Thanks for the link.
I think it's a bit hard to understand that lens from that very limited set compared to the RX1. I do think that the new 35/2 should surpass the RX1 sonnar though, at least technically somewhat easily.
I only see one photo shot at f2...and it's not a hard background and transition zone. Sharpness, color and CA correction seem great though on the f2 photo. I don't shoot DNG though--can lens correction or CA removal be baked in?
I'd like to see some photos, wide open in harsh light, mid to long distance, with back and foreground transitions and difficult bokeh, especially in the corners, like lots of OOF branches, leaves or hard lines.

Re: DNG, yes corrections are baked in. Sigma does it with the 45/2.8 when used on the Fp. I may be mistaken, but I think you *do* have the option to disable (uncheck) in LR, but "lens profile applied" is always checked by default.

Thanks—that’s what I was worried about. I’d love to see this lens in a stress test. My guess is that it will be absolutely excellent, both in rendering and in technical terms. It would not surprise me if it was not quite as smooth as the RX1 though better corrected for longitudinal and lateral CA, coma and vigenetting.

Yes, too early to tell if it will match the RX1's rendering but at least from the initial samples, OOF rendering does not seem harsh even at mid-distance and resolution is there. I expect it to be better corrected for axial CA compared to the RX1 and I'm hoping focus transition zone will look similar between the two lenses.

Or they take the lens and put it on a nice sony sensor for a slick RX1R3 they can charge 4000 for.
This is the worst of both worlds.

My bokeh impressions are mostly from the video I linked, it has some shots like that towards the end:
