But it won't. It will be very limited.
I don't like Lightroom mobile, I only use Snapseed on my phone. For sharing also you need more flexibility.
The only way that would work is if the camera was running android. You could load apps and share anyway you like.
Some limiting proprietary software will be just a big PITA.

I would say "at last" instead of "already" . After all, it's been 13-14 months since the official announcement by Zeiss. All the pre-launch criticism and skepticism aside, I wonder how successful this (not so) little cam will end up being, once it's available.
I will buy if it’s cheaper and better iq than sony RX1...

Did they though? I'm pretty certain the RX Sonnar would have been a Sony design and just got the blue badge to assist sales and pedigree. Look at all the recent Sony glass, not a Zeiss in sight.

I remain intrigued. They made a great lens to go on the RX1/RXR. The concept of the camera is a great field camera idea with social media in mind. Editing in LR CC in camera is brilliant. The ability to auto sync images to the desktop via LR CC would be wonderful.
I agree, this is the weirdest camera launch ever but if it has the image rendering of the RX1 series and the connectivity of an iPhone, I’m in.

The merit of RX1, in additional to awesome sonnar, is it can be as a stand alone pocket camera or 2nd camera integrated nicely with any system.
ZX1 has to have some wonders underneath to make me willing to spend money on it.

I am with you. If the ZX1 was considerably smaller, I'd be more interested. The hard drive and in-device editing I still would not care about, but at least it wouldn't make trouble for me the way a larger camera does.

I think the problem is also with regards to what social media apps will be supported in the Camera SW for direct uploading, and all those app integrations will need long term SW support as the underlying social media services will keep getting updated. Usually when sharing in social media user may also like to write some text along with the photos and that won't be so convenient to do in camera.
From my perspective most of those tasks would be easier to do on smartphone and it's much easier to keep smartphone up to date with such services and applications, and user can always get a new smartphone with a better screen without investing as much as the camera costs.
I think a better solution to "the problem" would be more seamless and easy way to get raw files (or if preferred, jpeg) transferred to smartphone and doing the rest on the phone....Show more →

Well its biggest wonders are the internal storage, built in LR and connectivity to social media. If those wonders don't do it for you...the camera is not for you.
This is very much a concept camera...maybe pointing towards the future.

Yeah I feel this way too.. I was hoping for something more RX1 in size. But I knew this from the get go as Zeiss had size/weight specs up ages ago.
I doubt I'll change my mind about the size but won't write it off till after I handle one at the shop (whenever that happens).

I would not be surprised at all if it handles well. I am the wrong person for this camera entirely somehow despite be willing to fork over cash for a fixed 35mm FF camera.
One underemphasized aspect of the RX1 Sonnar is the lens durability is poor. I’ve had multiple issues with ER:61 on a couple RX1 different bodies. Hopefully the ZX1 is more robust. A much better battery would be another welcome massive improvement.

Agreed! I have three RX1s on hand and each of them is "wounded" in some way, although they all are still capable of taking photos.
I also have a N.O.S. replacement lens on hand, because it's only a matter of time before some of these wounds prove fatal...
Even so, I still love this camera and the photos it takes, and for the way I use mine, I don't believe there's a better choice available!

Sony fixed that E:61 on RX1R.

One potential aspect is the lens has incredible performance, rendering and APO or menu system is clean and straight forward, AF is fast and reliable etc and some nice reviewers from trusted photographers... and of course the price...
there is still a market for a well designed fixed lens camera, depend on price and performance of ZX, it might still be the one.

No documentation or link. There are no reports of E:61.00 on RX1Rs. I am surprised to hear that your RX1R II had that. Maybe they slipped on the QC (mine had the EVF leak and was replaced another died when sent for a minor issue and got replaced!).

Interesting! How so? Do you have a link or documentation? I ask as I’ve had an ER:61 on an RX1R2, as well as focus ring issues that Sony had to fix.

Ahhhh... yet no price and a whiff of Bejing "air" in the ZX1 box but with so-so tech specs a good lens AND a body–the hefty size of a Panasonic S1(S1r, S1H). SSSup?
Well something's up but it seems limited only to workflo and eliminating on-shoot pc for pro wedding/fashion folks–or perhaps aimed at "other" heavy video/photo "dark users" ahem.
But hanging over all the new stuff is true 8K sensors with global shutter (read flash synch at 1/8000 and NO PHYSICAL SHUTTER). Yup true mechanical shutterless stills and video. Uh oh.
First mirrorless and now shutterless. The bleeding edge has led to a flood and it's soon to be all Panasonic's fault. The S1family doesn't yet have 8K but as I mentioned earlier, RED (Monstro) does @ $54,000 each but still without the biggie–global shutter.
The ZX1 price will tell everything. If it's high ($3k) then the ZX1 will be a boutique short run. If it's <$2k then perhaps it will suffice as an expensive 35mm "lens"–that doesn't require a camera or an on-site pc.

If they come in under $3K, they will have undercut the Leica Q2 by quite a margin. And if the IQ and rendering is there, it might make people who lust after the Q2 but not its price tag to jump to the ZX1. Then again, you have a Ricoh GRIII (which I just got and thoroughly enjoy) under $1K with great IQ. From a pricing standpoint, Zeiss has some interesting choices to make.

Anyone up for predicting price- The Price Is Right rules?
