We did 2 tours at the Hearst mansion. Really wish I could have carried a tripod in there to get some multiple exposures for overall balance. Nothing really great about this shot except it was handheld at 1/40 and at 3200 ISO. Pretty happy with the 5's high ISO performance. This was the working office.
Tons of killer flowers all the way down the coast. The wind was in the 30-40 mph range most of the time making it pretty hard to get things to hold still.
Some beautiful shots Mark, That high ISO shot looks pretty good to me. You would have a hard time getting that shot with film. Guess that Zinfandel help steady your hand. I know you enjoyed the trip. Hope you are enjoying the 5D.
Say Hi to Nancy.
Nice work.............looks as if the 5D is working out great for you. I have a shot of the same landscape(one with the bridge) from the opposite direction, Monterey Bay and Carmel are on my revisit list!!
I too am already ready to go back. Everyone was very patient with me but I could spend weeks driving up and down that coast.
A tour designed for photogs at the hearst mansion would be great. The tours were nice but they were very quick. The main (and most popular tour) was very crowded. It was hard to get a picture of an empty room and the next group was always about 5 minutes behind us. The secondary tours were much smaller but they also moved quickly. Since we couldn't use flash, a photog tour giving us the ability to slow down a bit and take a tripod for different exposures would have been great.
Also, for the first time in 15 or so years the main pool was drained for repairs. So, one of the most impressive exterior settings was full of tools and scaffolding...
It takes something like 345,000 gallons to fill it back up so they have to plan for a rainy season to make sure the springs that supply the water to the complex have enough capacity.
I have only posted in this thread once or twice, but I am from the Atlanta area (Suwanee) also. I have not been on any great trips taking fantastic photos like some of you guys, but I did manage to get out shooting a couple of weeks ago.
Here is an IR shot I did of the pond in George Pierce Park.
It was a very hazy day and the pond was green with a thin layer of scum or something. The IR filter did a good job of making the sceen more interesting, at least I think so.
So it looks like the Falcons will be starting training camp in Flowery Branch the week of July 24th. For those who were there last year- I read on their forums that Coach Mora was going to have the orange fence removed.
It is open to the public, you just show up and hike in from the parking lot across the street.
They should eventually get around to posting dates and times on their website, I'm just wondering if anyone else in interested
IR does give some interesting views. Also, what little landscape photography I do, I like to do early in the morning or late in the afternoon. IR allows you to shoot in the middle of the day. The photo above was taken around 1pm and as you could see in the non-IR shot, it was not a very interesting photo with the IR.
