One more thing. For some reason the price of IR filters really jump at the 72mm size. I wanted a 77mm filter, but the price was around $250+ while the 67mm was only $50+. I went with the 67mm and just use my 24-85 lens for IR.
Congratulations to Tracey on completing her first 55 mile bike ride over "Gently rolling" hills in the Cartersville Century. Way to go Tracey. Hope you rested well Sunday.
Great looking IR shots Mike. I have never tried this but I really like the different look in your lake shots.
The Falcons training camp starting on the 24th sounds like a good photo opportunity. I may be able to make it sometime during that week. Anyone planning on going?
Thanks guys! It was great to see you, Grant! He failed to mention that he easily completed the 55 mile route, too!
I can't wait for Falcons training camp to start...one of my favorite photographic opportunities of the year! Naturally, I'll trek on up to Spartanburg, SC to see the Panthers, too!
Has anyone given any thought to a return trip to Cades Cove this fall?
Saturday I photographed the Paralympic field trial competition at Lakewood Stadium. Several others there photographing from the news media but I was in the Prosthetic field for many years and have followed these competitions since 1992.
Thought these might be interesting photos to some.
Grant
First image is April Holmes crossing the finish line at a time of 12.73. This was a new world record for her classification and the first time the 13 second barrier has been broken for that class.
I thought they were great. I have many friends that due to the War in Iraq have lost a limb and I have to say these people are tough both mentally, physically and never accept being treated special. I'm in the US Army and even though I have been in combat many times, these individual are the true heroes of life and my hat goes off to them. Maybe next year or next time you can let us know to see if we can tag along with you... if possible.

12.73? that is only about 1.5 seconds off the womens olympic record which I think is around 11.08... Pretty amazing.
Speaking of a fall trip, how does Chimney Rock in NC sound? I think it is about the same distance as cades cove for the Atlanta folks. The moose (meese? ) would be pretty close, the biltmore is about 30 minutes away, and I think Tracey knows about some cool waterfalls in the area.
Nancy is on fall break from October 12-15. So that weekend would be great, but it could be any other as well.
Sorry It will be four more years before another field trial will be held here. Before athletes can advance to the Paralympic competition they have to qualify at an official event. There will be more events but not in Atlanta or Georgia that I know of.
There are many amputees from the Iraq war but many of them are not ready for competition yet. Kortney Clemons was there but I think he was the only Iraq Vet. Very little public attendance even though admission was free. There was fifteen countries represented and many athletes.
Mark. That 12.73 coming straight at me really tested my MkII focus speed . I don't think my 20D would have got the shot. I usually try to make it up to a friend of mines place in Unicoi, Tennessee on the first Friday of October. www.farmhousegallery.net He's pretty close to Asheville. That's before the 12th but I usually stay up in that area a few days and go back through the Smokeys. Keep in touch. We definitely need to get together for another fall trip.
