Robin- you keep talking like that and I'm going to click on that "add to cart" on the 28-105
Please, please stop!!
Marc,
It's 24-105, not 28-105. Oooops. Did I say that outloud? Sorry. My bad. Just sharing my disease(L-coholism) with others.
I like your Leafy Sea Dragon and your Sea Otter shots. I have never seen the Asian Otters. They are always sleeping when I am there. I haven't gotten any turtle shots either.
Grant,
Wow...good to seee so many cranes. Did you use the 500mm? With a TC? I might have been a little disappointed with my 70-200mm and 1.4x. Would a 400mm with a 1.4x be ok for this? Comments?
Grant, you seemed a bit disappointed with the Sand Hill Cranes. I'm still amazed that we have something like this so close. When you can't get good closeups somehting else to consider are the more artistic blurs with longer exposures which I've seen from Bosque out in New Mexico that can look pretty cool. Wish I could have joined you all.
I did take off for a couple hours late yesterday to the Merry Brothers Ponds in Augusta which are these huge ponds left over from the clay dug up by the brick manufacturers. I only wish I could have spent more time there, plus I wasn't really dressed for walking around in the mud. It was a beautiful day though and I saw Bald Eagle, Anhinga, Cormorants, Great Blue Herons, Egrets, Kingfishers, etc, etc. I'm kind of disappointed that I don't have more to show for my efforts. Here's one that I like:
I had never seen a Bald Eagle before and was blown away. They are huge. I got a semidecent picture, but he was so high up that I wasn't really happy with the angle.
If any of you all are out that way, it's definitely worth a visit if you can. I was really bummed when the sun finally set and I had to leave.
Gaby, who is Gary Fong and what and where is his workshop?
All of the photos were with my 400 f/5.6. I didn't bring my tripod down there with me so they are all hand held or resting on my car. I'm wishing for a 500mm....
Thats a pretty good Eagle shot Todd. Interesting foilage on the tree below. Your female Anhinga shot looks like a water color painting. I may have to make a trip to Merry Brothers.
Anyone know if there is any action at E.L. Huie this time of year?
Mark, If you have Ranger Akins email address how about sending it to me via email.
Tracy, Wish you could have joined us for our Hiwasee WR outing. Sounds like you might be getting pretty busy on the Sports side. I guess I will have to look for your name in the Sports forum soon.
Gary, We couldn't find you in Denny's anywhere so we just went ahead and photographed Sandhills without you. Seems like I heard you name mentioned a couple of times though. Maybe next time.
I may try to get in the Aquarium during a week day next week since I have a season pass now. Thanks for the heads up notice Robin.
Gaby, I have heard that the Gary Fong seminar is pretty good but I try to avoid all weddings now.

What day? I might just take a day off of work if you want some company. Wed, Thur, or Fri works best for me.

Atlanta Audubon

Date: Saturday, February 25, 8:00 AM

Birding focus: Waterfowl, shorebirds
Atlanta Audubon website lists what birds to expect:
"The Huie ponds and nearby Lake Shamrock are probably the best place for shorebirds and waterfowl in the Atlanta metro area, and the Wetlands Center trail offers excellent viewing of woodland species. A variety of ducks during winter and migration, including good numbers of Northern Shoveler, Ring-necked Duck, Lesser Scaup, Gadwall, Blue-winged Teal, Green-winged Teal, occasionally Northern Pintail, Canvasback, Greater Scaup. An excellent spot for swallows during migration, sometimes six species at once."
Hi Robin, I would love to have company. I'm pretty open on Wednesday and Friday, On Thursday it would probably be 2:00 before I could make it. I haven't received my Pass yet. I'm supposed to make a reservation. Do they do a photo ID there?
You get the pass on your first visit. There you have to get your pic. taken. I would love to go also, I can make it anytime on Friday. If you two go another day that will be fine. I'll be in Boston from Tues to Thurs. I hope you two don't mind me offering myself into the mix.
Fay Gold Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of photographs by Andre De Dienes including rare vintage photographs of Marilyn Monroe as well as photographs from his book “Studies of the Female nude”
Not at all Robert, I wouldn't have any trouble with 3:00 Thursday. Friday would be fine but I have to meet my daughter in Conyers at 6:00 so I would have to leave early enough to beat the traffic. How late is it open?
Grant, I don't have his e-mail address, He was supposed to send it to me. I think Mark II got it though. I will send him an e-mail and ask him to forward it to you.
I went to Gary Fong's seminar last Tuesday, this guy is a great marketer, and he gave some tips that they are useful for me, some I don't see them viable in the market I'm working with right now. But my main interest was to hear from someone who made it good from the wedding photography industry, and some tips of how he acomplished it.
