p.10 #1 · Official: Canon Announces the EOS 6D Mark II

Funny how people pride themselves on being one dimensional photographers, I don't need this and that.
If all you're offering are images to your clients, there's another vendor walking in right behind you offering monthly video and photo packages for web and social media.

Clients want one company that does it all, not just Joe the photographer that comes by every now and then.
Thinking beyond photos, we'll realize the 6DII isn't a versatile enough tool to service a broad range of clients.

And as an entry level FF ... umm, who is expecting it to be the appropriate tool for servicing a broad range of clients.

Forget the video, the single card slot alone makes it NOT the MOST appropriate tool for professional service (insert 5 or 1 series) to clients. I just don't get why folks are complaining that an entry-level, enthusiasts level camera isn't appropriate for top tier professional service ... that's like expecting a Corolla to be a Lexus limousine.

Get a clue folks ... entry level, enthusiasts appropriate build ... and $$$.

Anyone for a little hyperbole?

Some folks buy a truck without a navigation system, dvd, wireless and a killer sound system and full power goodies and leather. Where is the hyperbole in my post? 4k is not top specification, my 3 year old phone can shoot in 4k for gods sake. My comparison between stills MP of 6mp and 24mp is the exact same ratio between 1080p and 2160p video. You know that you can have a killer video AND stills in one camera with no sacrifices right? The fact that you think you need to buy 2 different multiple thousand dollar cameras to achieve that is ridiculous. I get it, you don't care how crappy your videos look 10 years from now, but to act like it doesn't matter on a $2000 camera because Canon has convinced you that you have to buy a separate video camera to be able to shoot decent 4k video is ridiculous.

Are you seriously trying to make the comparison that you don't want GPS in your vehicle either? What year is it again? Your arguments are completely nonsensical, this isn't an entry level camera (of which many actually still have 4k video capabilities) it is a $2000 camera.

Does anyone know:

a) does it do in-camera HDR?
b) what is the output, RAW, like the 5DIII or JPEG?

How long before testers get their units? Or does everyone get them August 15th?

It's amazing how the trolls just don't seem to get it.

For all the things they whine about wanting on the 6DII, I would think it would be easier for them to simply cry on a 5DIV thread that they want the 5DIV for $1999.

Maybe THIS would make them happy. They could buy 10 of them for the price a single 6DII.

And they could get the selfie stick kit version!

6DII sounds interesting. started using 6D for macro shots (mostly flowers) instead
of 5D3 because it had better low-light performance. (less need to use flash
which often ruins color of flowers)
articulating LCD screen will help this decrepit old man get shots of flowers
and other subjects at or near ground-level.
don't care about 4K video as only video I do is short segments of folklore and
other performances my wife and I see on cruise/tour excursions. video takes
up too much space on computer so when we want the full performance on video
I buy the DVD for sale at performance site or ship.

in regards to petkal belittling the benefit of new cameras:
5D4 enabled me to get detailed shots of hummingbirds that are
only a spot on the LCD. its 30 megapixels definitely improved
results from cropping
1DX2's superior AF has enabled my first clear photos of hummingbirds
in flight.
all of a sudden I am a better photographer. I do not mean to
denigrate petkal's photographic skills but tools matter.

There are a lot of justifications for crippled features being expressed in this thread. Fanboyism at its most rabid. As long as people keep buying their cameras, Canon will cripple features so that they can create market segmentation. There are other competing products without the crippled features. Sony and Pentax FF options come to mind. If 4K is desired, Panasonic can help there too.

I can't answer a, but has there been any Canon DSLR that does not have Raw?

I can't believe the number of people complaining that they can't have a house for the price of a kitchen sink. Such a bunch of ingrates. "Me me me me" - my grandma used to say "I want doesn't get". A good rule for life. Consider how you would feel in your job if a customer made demands like this - twice as much work for half the money...

Anyone expecting the 6D2 to be a Red in disguise, or a 5D4 for half the money has been living in a dream world. Canon can't simply pull out the rug from under their pro cameras and expect to stay in business. And 4K isn't a "free" feature as many seem to think - it requires software, firmware and additional hardware to implement reliably.

You want 4K, pay the money and buy a camera that supports it. It's not like Canon doesn't offer cameras with the functionality. Or buy one of those almighty Nikons that apparently do everything better. Indeed as already pointed out, your smartphone probably does 4K so just use that.

My 70D can do in-camera HDR, but it saves the image as a JPEG, not as a RAW file, while the 5DIII does save the in-camera HDR image as a RAW file.

Pentax FF ... 4K video
Panasonic ... FF
Sony ... long glass AF

Looks to me like everybody is leaving out something, somewhere in the FF entry arena ... so choose your poison, and spend your $$$ accordingly.

You want it all ... then spend the money to get it all. You want a FF camera with 4K video ... then go buy a FF camera with 4K video. But stop whining about the 6D2, 'cause it ain't a FF with 4K video.

It is what it is ... buy it, or don't. I already put my $$$ to buy it. Your $$$, your call.

If you don't think 4K is important, will you before 5 years from now? That's when the next 6D body will be coming out. My recent trip to a large consumer electronics store (Best Buy) suggests to me that 4K is the standard now.

That's odd, what kinda devices are 95% of people viewing their media on? That's right, laptops, phones. tablets. You said 4k is needed? Sure... my household barely touches the TV.

My thoughts exactly!

It seems that the main complaints about the 6DII are (in no particular order):

  1. no 4K
  2. no dual card slots
  3. narrower AF-point spread vs the 5DIV

Well, Canon already offers a camera with all these features: the 5DIV.
So, why all the complaining?

If venting makes you feel better, here are some free suggestions from me:
Go to an Apple forum and complain that the iPhone 7 has a smaller screen that the 7 Plus.
Or, go to a Toyota forum and start complaining that your Toyota is not a Lexus.

WTF

Exactly. Sadly i can't afford that, so i have to live with some compromises. Similarly i don't live in a mansion and drive a Bentley. Life sucks eh?

Of those failings, only the AF point spread is really something i care about. Funnily enough i've just been watching a couple of review/preview videos where they complain about it also, but in one case they compare to the 80D, 7D2 and other crop cameras to show how poor the spread is. Sensible, objective reviewing....
