My thoughts exactly!

It seems that the main complaints about the 6DII are (in no particular order):

  1. no 4K
  2. no dual card slots
  3. narrower AF-point spread vs the 5DIV

Well, Canon already offers a camera with all these features: the 5DIV.
So, why all the complaining?

If venting makes you feel better, here are some free suggestions from me:
Go to an Apple forum and complain that the iPhone 7 has a smaller screen that the 7 Plus.
Or, go to a Toyota forum and start complaining that your Toyota is not a Lexus.

WTF

exactly... They are so into this 4k thing, cards slots etc...

Like you said canon has 5d4..... But they complain about price.

I own the 5DIII.

To me the 5DIV was not enough for an upgrade and this 6DII would not make me swap either.

The request I had made for the 6D Mk II was to be an 80D in FF and that's it. The fact is, the new camera is basically just that. The disappointment for me is the more cramped focus points, but that isn't a deal breaker for my style of shooting. My desire was to take my 80D with a 100-400 Mk II and a 1.4x III extender and replace the body of that rig with a full frame that would do the same thing, ability to auto focus with the extender included.

For a long time the request from most of the forum participants was like mine. Let's just have the 80D and turn this exact rig into a full frame. The people who had an 80D didn't want to sacrifice the touch articulating screen, as stepping up to that was a huge bonus as far as getting uesd to the improved system is concerned. 4k is nice and all, but it is not necessary for my specific needs. The other thing that I don't hear much about is the 5 axis, in-body stabilization for video purposes. I am not sure why Canon invested money into this feature. It seems like the jury is still out on it, and we will soon see how effective, and useful it really is.

I will sell my 6D and pre-order this camera (already pre-ordered), as I see this as a completely fulfilled desire to an already great optical instrument. It is a little more than I had hoped (heaven forbid someone expressing satisfaction ), with the Bluetooth and the added stabilization, but the articulating touchscreen, and the dual pixel auto focus system are the biggest improvements I could want in an upgrade to an already excellent full frame camera., in my view.

Funny how people pride themselves on being one dimensional photographers, I don't need this and that.
If all you're offering are images to your clients, there's another vendor walking in right behind you offering monthly video and photo packages for web and social media.

Clients want one company that does it all, not just Joe the photographer that comes by every now and then.
Thinking beyond photos, we'll realize the 6DII isn't a versatile enough tool to service a broad range of clients.

My clients pay me 1000 - 2000 bucks a day shooting stills. None of them did ever pay me a single Euro for shooting video, nor asked for it. If they do, my first question would be, if they want 4K. Nobody who is not in pro Film production really needs it. Most clients can not handle it up to date. But If they want 4k and pay me 1-2k a day I would rent a 5D IV for 75 Euro a day immediatelly. If they would ask for it 15-20 times a year, I might purchase one.

One major, nay, fundamental difference: 80D has twice as much pixels-per-duck as 6DII.
The only saving grace here would be for 6DII to have much lower high ISO noise than 80D, starting at ISO 3200 and up.

This is true in many respects. On my end, I'm really looking for something with dual cards, and a tilt screen, so both options are compromises in some way. I've had issues with card failure, it's rare but not pleasant, and getting over not being able to see the back screen unless I lie in the mud.

My real issue with it, is that I look at the specs, and there is nothing future proofed after a year, maybe two; it's still a decent camera in many ways, but the time for the next upgrade is a concern if my needs change at all. Wouldn't be comfortable trying any paid work alone with it due to one card slot etc etc

I owned and used the 5D II for years and ISO 6400 banding drove me grazy. For me 5D III was not enough for an upgrade. I went 6D for 1000 bucks less, better high ISO IQ, more accurate (center) AF and visible AF confirmation. 6D II and 5D IV or 1DX/1DX II are not enough for an upgrade for me, too.

But 6D II will replace 6D sooner or later. Before this happens I am pretty sure I will be able to purchase a new 6D for 1000 €. I guess, I will not care about the missing joystick.

Where is the hyperbole in my post? 4k is not top specification, my 3 year old phone can shoot in 4k for gods sake. My comparison between stills MP of 6mp and 24mp is the exact same ratio between 1080p and 2160p video. You know that you can have a killer video AND stills in one camera with no sacrifices right? The fact that you think you need to buy 2 different multiple thousand dollar cameras to achieve that is ridiculous. I get it, you don't care how crappy your videos look 10 years from now, but to act like

Yes, I am serious. I never bought a car with GPS. Nor is there one existing I would buy. I bought the best navigation system I could get for 120 Euro that is much better than every includet nav system for 10 times the price in in any car I rented.

And you are wrong. 6D II is like 6D an entry level FF camera. It will be available for 1300 within a year I guess.
And yes, I am a fanboy. I am a Canon fan because Canon gives me the freedom of choice what I need and not to have to pay for what I doen´t.

Which is why it will pair so perfectly with my 80D ... slow, low, go or macro ... all the bases will be covered.

This what I'm watching for ... high iso performance is almost a given, but how much they shift / balance it right to left will be interesting to see.

I'm hoping they lowered the base iso, similar to the 80D ... just with bigger pixels.

This may be of interest to those wondering if f8 shooting with tele, and additional points are available other than center point

Youtubers are already having their jollies with 6DII and Canon, and this "reviewer" is certainly something else.

So, similar to 80D at F8

27 point with only two lenses (pretty limited, IMO)
-- Canon 100-400 II IS Lens
-- Canon 200-400 F4L IS Lens

Single Point (Center) with other lenses. Another advantage goes to 5D4 with all the focus points available (at f8) with most lenses.
