I believe things could still change as far as software goes but the physical aspect of this new camera should be more or less firm. The camera does look very much like the 1DX but perhaps with a higher prism head and 2 bigger toggle switches behind (good with gloves).
I am hoping that the final production model will have better low light focusing and better tracking capabilities. This together with better ISO performance (than the 1DX) is what most photographers are looking for in a pro-body.

I don't know if it's possible for a digital camera, or for that matter anything in the tech industry, to be "future-proof", but I get what you're saying.
A potential problem with an unimpressive replacement is that used prices for the 1DX will remain strong. If the MkII isn't all that interesting, I'll probably look to get a 1DX on the used market at some point, to complement the one I bought in 2012.
As it stands now, the current 1DX addresses all of my client needs. The MkII would have to be considerably better to tempt me into paying what will likely be comparable to the D5 intro price. But I felt the same way prior to the 1DX release while shooting the 1DIV. The 1DX specs didn't seem to justify the considerable price increase. But several factors caused me to reconsider. In use (as opposed to judging from the spec sheet), I found the 1DX generally increased my productivity 30-50% for my sports work (technically acceptable image quality - i.e. follow focus and sharpness consistency of extended sequences).

EOS-1D X Mark II is, I seem to be equipped with a 4K video of rumor as 60fps. AF is, does not change what the distance measurement points, the range is expanded, It is quite fascinating to all of the distance measuring point is enabled in the F8.
In appearance stand out climax of penta upper portion, but whether this would be GPS. After that, it is where the frame speed and ISO range of continuous shooting in the normal mode is a concern.
Other than the prism, the only change is the live view/video button. The LCD display show slight difference in its content compared to stock images of 1DX. Could be just a good photoshop. Even LCD is identical.
If the specs are real, why no info on ISO? The LCD says 51200, but that doesn't mean anything, as the prior stock image of 1DX also had that.

I'm 8 pages late, but I'd tend to agree with this. Presuming landscape photographers don't buy these cameras, it's likely to be something like 1% of photos taken - if all points are f8 compatible maybe that increases and for some I'm sure that would be a great addition!
It's a difficult situation for a company like canon. The 1dx really was truly superb. With more dynamic range it would have been nearly perfect.
What's the 1dx3 going to bring then? It'll almost have to be "revolution" not "evolution".
Less weight would help some people I suspect. That would be revolution. So would a combined evf / ovf. That kind of thing.
Regarding the leaked Japanese specs, Canon Rumors reposted that info too and says the info they received earlier was incorrectly translated by them in respect to sensor resolution. They should have reported 20.2MP instead of 22MP.
All I can say is wait and see. When the 1DX was announced I was quite skeptical about it in respect to the 1DIV I was using at the time. But I ended up getting one at release and in real-world use found it delivered considerably better AF performance, coupled with the truly higher fps rate, which at least for me, delivered a much greater number of technically usable images.
Right now these recent spec leaks indicate to me a continued focus on improving video capability, which should eclipse that available from Nikon and the D5/D500. However, I'm primarily a stills photographer... But dual-pixel AF would be cool to have, if it's reasonably quick, both for video and stills.

Have we reached the tipping point? This seems more like a 1DXs than a 1DXII. The Fuji Xpro2 isn't that much of a bump over the pro1 and this II isn't that much of a bump- as there was from the 1DIV to the 1DX.
Maybe until organic sensors come out, or something else, we are at the time of reducing deltas between models. I guess they have to keep making cameras, so they have to put something else out there as cameras get old and need replaced.
It looks like a great camera, but not that different. Coming from a 5DII that has to becoming to the end of its life, I'd look at buying one, but not until the initial price drops.
I'm not really all that impressed with the D5 either but I haven't seen high ISO on it yet. I think the D500 is the one that is going to do really well, especially combined with the 200-500 5.6. Canon needs an answer to that and not in another 5 years. I'm tempted to go dual system just for that alone. If the AF proves exceptional I'll dump my inconsistent 7D2.
The latest specs for the 1DX2 still don't trigger a buy for me unless it offers big time high ISO improvements. I'm glad to see a return to red AF points but that is not worth $6000+.
I can see it being very useful for bird shooters who need maximum reach with TC's.
At this point I'm a little more interested in whether Canon ups the FPS on the 5D4.

We began reaching a sort of tipping point a few years back, and this is one of the reasons that the high end camera market has begun to show (the obvious and predictable) signs that the huge expansion of roughly the first decade of the century is cooling off, and that sales rates will likely float back to something approaching the historical norm of the pre-digital era.
The new cameras are now more likely to be refinements and improvements of the previous models and much less likely to offer significant improvements. It is a bit harder to convince ourselves that the new thing is really phenomenally better than the old thing.
That first happened for me when the 5DIII came out. Objectively it was better than the 5DII that I used, but not by a sufficient enough margin that it was going to change my photography in a significant way. In my case (and YMMV) I simply waited for the 5DsR which is (for my photography) a sufficient change to warrant the purchase. I also shoot the Fujifilm cameras you mention, and I've stuck with my original XE1 since it came out, despite its objectively lower performance than that of the XT1, but I'll likely move to the XPro2 (or possibly the yet-to-be-announced XT20.
The point? Agreement with your observation that there is some combination of upgrades being more clearly incremental improvements rather than radical changes, cameras that are really already doing the job very well, and a growing sense that we can hold off on the upgrades a bit longer.
I think Canon has a pretty good answer with the not so dramatically different 7D Mark II and equivalent 640mm 100-400 II for about the same money. Another 110mm of "reach" is no joke, but the 100-400 II is pretty spectacular lens for the money...
