TC14E II or III?
I'm sure this has been discussed here but I'm having trouble finding the relevant posts.
Has anybody found a significant improvement with the III compared to the II? I'm not too concerned about the corners when I use a TC.
I used to have the original 14E (AF-I) which I used a lot with my 300 f4 but I sold it with the lens and don't currently have a TC so have not yet tried one with the 200-500.
I'm leaning towards the II as I only expect to use it occasionally.
Lastly has anybody tried the cheap and cheerful Kenko 300 DGX with this lens? On my 300 F4 it was very close to the TC14E in the center, a bit behind in the corners and didn't feel as solid. I suspect some of the bad reviews are from people using it on lenses like the 70-300 VR which don't work with the 14E - I tried that and the results were much worse than cropping. But with a TC friendly lens like the 300 f4 it was much better than one would expect.

My partner has been shooting feral ponies and other critters on Assateague Island with the 200-500 this spring. The little lens is holding up its end of the bargain fairly well. And it sure comes in handy on those 10 mile walks to the island's more remote areas.
