Low pass filter is in essence a very light blur

Because pixels on a sensor are of a fixed size and shape when you shoot a regular pattern without this filter you get effectively interference this shows as moire, a colour pattern. Often very difficult to remove.

Nature has few instances of these regular patterns to cause problems. But for other shooters (fashion, buildings etc) it can be a real problem.

Agreed. I was planning to make my high-res body decision when I could compare the 5DsR to the Sony A9, hoping the 5DsR had more going for it than just resolution.

So not having having much knowledge or experience with camera without the low-pass filter. What are the pros/cons of not having the no-pass filter in the 5DsR camera

More specifically, how does not having the filter supposed to improve sharpness (reportedly for landscape), and what kind of situations if any would it be detrimental not having the low-pass filter

Have you heard of Google

Big thread here, last post about three hours ago so it is still on the first page of the index:

I also saw some sample images on Mr. Ken R's page and the noise is horrible. The detail is there but the artifacts are def. present. I dont see this beating the d810 or d800 series in terms of DR but I could be wrong. Id want to see more sample images, particularly in studio and landscape.

No mention of increased dynamic range and a mention of a Low pass cancellation filter (like the d800e?). I was really hoping canon would challenge sony sensors so I could buy one and use my 17 and 24 tse on it. Guess I'll wait for a Sony 50MP sensor and cam... Sigh.

The most disappointing thing being that the forums will now be clogged for at least several more years of arguing about the benefits of dynamic range

That link gives wrong information. Foveon requires an AA filter for exactly the same reasons that Bayer does: Both are sampling systems and must obey the Nyquist Sampling Theorem. The Foveon misinformation refuses to die; people and sites who should know better continue to regurgitate it. There are examples on the web of aliased (moiré) photos from Foveon sensors.

Its a 7dmk2 sensor scaled up to ff. At least I save some money.

Well we can still hope for stronger CFA for better color... I guess at some point there will be a Canon whitepaper to fill in some details that currently remain unanswered.

Of the announcements, I'm most interested in seeing the M3. I wonder if no USA also means no Canada?

Third party filter holder companies better get busy designing a filter holder for this 11-24 Bulb lens

Either one will be in my hands this summer. The only question...which one.

So Canon still has not figured out how to provide crop modes with higher fps like Nikon D810.
Low ISO DR is usual Canon. Hopefully banding is gone like 7d2. Hope it is availsble before june.

I have to admit, viewing those samples at 100% on my MBP retina display (at native resolution) is pretty impressive.

I wish I had a 27" iMac retina...man oh man.

So Canon just scaled up the 7D2 sensor and called it a day?

What surprised me was they actually bothered to take out all the video features already on the 5D3.

If they were going to make a "still photo only" approach a la Leica, might as well just gut everything and sell it for cheaper.

I found this interesting From DPreview:

It's convenient to think of the new 50MP as essentially an upscaled version of the 20MP sensor inside the EOS 7D Mark II - minus the 7D II's Dual-pixel AF. The pixel pitch of 4.14 microns is certainly very similar across both sensors. Accordingly, Canon tells us that at a pixel level, noise levels should be very similar to the EOS 7D Mark II and slightly better than what we'd expect from a 5D Mark II (note: not a 5D Mark III). Oddly though, maximum ISO sensitivity is capped at ISO 6400, which extends only up to 12,800. Even more oddly, a Canon representative openly described this limitation as ‘arbitrary'. This is strange because the EOS 7D Mark II (remember the pixel pitch of its sensor is almost the same) can confidently shoot at ISO sensitivity settings up to 51,200.
