See last page for a Z6 and a D750 post. Sadly, not too many.

The thread is 6 years old... any new shots from the 300 f/2.8 owners to post? I'm thinking of selling the 300PF and picking up the latest 300mm F/2.8.

Tim, these are outstanding. Both of course! TimMunsey wrote:
Had mine since 2007, not used much these due to buying the 500mm F/4E but still take along on places I can sit with both:-
I have the classic 300/2.8 AF-I which is a boat anchor but the color correction is amazing (4 ED elements in 1992). It is fully compatible with modern cameras. I need every available photon for ice shows:
Z6, Nikkor 300/2.8 AF-I, wide open, 1/500, ISO 100.

These are great, as are many you have been showing lately from skating. And - side effect: A great counter-argument for all these people that keep telling us that the FTZ is a crutch and the Z can't get anything focussed properly
Used 300 F/2.8 with TC's or new 500mmPF? Both are in or around the same price range.
I have the 1.7xTC this would bring me to a 510 F/4.8 I believe on the 300mm. Thoughts on how the lens handles TC's? From the looks of things.. little to no loss in sharpness? I'm guess AF slows some? Weight and size...the 500 wins I'd love to know your thoughts about the questions above if you've shot with both.

300 2.8 for me any day, you can always go to 500 5.6 with the 300 2.8, but you can never go to 2.8 with the 500pf.
I consider the 300 2.8 and the 400 2.8 Nikon's most versatile and sharpest lenses. Weight difference between the pf and the 300 is not an issue for me, I always prefer fast glass.
Any thoughts on taking a chance on a used but pretty clean copy of the lens? Serial is 209565...would that mean it was manufactured in 2009? Or anytime after... doing a search... I'm fuzzy on how Nikon lists their dates.

I bought mine used. AF-S circa 2000ish.
$1800 from KEH, super clean. So sharp it'll cut you.
I buy all my lenses used. This is the only one I didn't buy locally in Seattle. (there weren't any used copies in my price range)

I think I'm going to give it a shot... if I don't like it... I can return it I have a feeling I'm going to like it
