Phenomenal lens. Just a bit on the short side for wildlife(birding esp).
Takes the 2xtc well but even then it has it's limits.
Prices have come down but not as much as other F-mount lenes.. $2k to $2500 will get you a VRii in mint condition.
I think it's because Nikon doesn't seem interested in making a new 300 2.8.
