Helena, +1 for what Philip said. Either you have complete control over 35mm FL or its best suited FL for your type of work. Either way images are great showing capability of this camera in right hands

Thank you both very much! If it were the Leica thread it would have been different, because there many others post photos at least as often as I do. This thread moves much slower, so it felt like I was hi-jacking it... But after have read your posts I feel better. I'll try and be a little more selective though.

Thanks Joe, Helena, Philip!
Helena, beautiful Urbex shots with lots of color!
What HDR software are you using, if any?
The old stove shot is my favorite of the set, though I like them all. Keep posting!

Wayne, thank you! I use Lightroom for all my pictures and like it very much. I haven't tried HDR yet because RX1 has so much DR that I haven't needed it.
Hope you all didn't think that I was fishing for compliments, because that wasn't my meaning.

What an interesting reply, I was wondering the same thing and thought that you must have been using HDR but now I really want to know how you got those photos above of the abandoned cottages. If you are carrying a tripod on these long walks, which one are you using? I notice that your Flickr stream has quite a few 5D photos.
These are my two walk around cameras and I am looking for a suitable tripod.
That quality of light is amazing and I would love to know the time of day and if you used any other lighting techniques or just used ambient light. Please post those fantastic images of Norway.
Helena, I look forward to seeing what you show of your environment with the change in seasons. You made winter look lovely, now for spring, summer and autumn.

The northern winter has been quite something this year, and not many folks have done as much to show us as Helena has. We all have different habits and seasons, so it's natural there is an ebb and flow. We are off to Ladakh in June, I promise to post lots of what the RX1 will see in the more discreet aspects of the place. The output is too good not to share!

I agree, I love the pictures of Norway, especially winter snow, very different than TX. I like everyones images, learn a lot and just enjoy looking. joanlvh

Wonderful shots everyone! I have so incredibly busy and I have not commented individually but have been watching and liking the many shots here Finally Sony Australia, replaced my RX1 after 4 weeks, with a new one. I must say, even with the difficulty in having the RX1 serviced, Sony came good. I am not too sure whether Leica would have done the same.
Here is a shot from the other night, with only moon light, at 25,600 ISO f/2.0 hand held shot, NR on off. This RX1 still amazes me!

Thanks everyone! You're too kind.
Joan, now I want to go out and purchase some tulips.
Charles, great to hear that you got a brand new RX1!
I have been reluctant to try such high ISOs but that looks usable for small prints. I have sewn a tiny hood from thin white fabric and use it as a diffuser on the built-in flash when it's just too dark, and results are surprisingly decent. Good enough for the family album anyway.

Thank you for the kind words! I rarely use a tripod, but brought one this time since I knew I was going to check out those cabins. A couple of months ago I bought a relatively inexpensive Benro "A155FBR0" Aluminium tripod especially for RX1 and have been very happy with it so far. Max height is 130cm, it folds down to 40cm and weighs only 800g. It's supposed to be able to handle up to 2kg, but the few times I bring 5D I take my old Manfrotto tripod instead.
When I visited the abandoned cabins it was in the middle of the day, overcast and quite grey, so I was surprised to see the nice saturated colors the camera captured. No flash or other artificial light. The stove was in a very dark corner so a 8 sec. exposure was needed and perhaps that helped with the colors. Since there are no windows in the frames DR wasn't an issue. Not much post processing on the first two, but I played a bit in Lightroom with the door detail.
A couple from yesterday's walk (I wish I had known the light would be so great, then I'd taken a trip out to the fjord or something):

Ive taken about a 3 year sabbatical from photography....sold my 5DMkII with all my lenses, including my favorite, my Zeiss 35mm F/1.4 Distagon.
Now that Im wanting to get back into it I realized that I hated lugging around a big heavy camera and gear bag. I found that when I needed or wanted my camera the most, I didnt have it....so I used my iphone. Here I was with about $20,000 in camera gear and when some of the best pics made themselves available to me....I was using a crappy cell phone camera.
So I always wanted a smaller point and shoot style camera but I got spoiled on the 5D's full frame sensor. I found it just felt like it made me a better photographer and that the pics just seemed to relax and pull me in.....they felt more the way my eye saw the real world, so much more than an cropped sensor.
So I was stuck in a conundrum....I wanted the size of a point and shoot with the look of a full frame.
Sony seems to have answered my prayers.
I was held back by the costs but when I weigh out the cost of a good full frame DSLR.....even a used one and a nice 35mm prime, Its as much or more of what the RX1 costs and I dont get the convenience of size.
As so many have said here....there really is no comparison to this camera, its in a class on it own.
The image quality is just remarkable and this thread had me on the fence ready to leap.....especially Helena's photo's...WOW....how lucky to live somewhere like that, wonderful photography.
It was this photo by Charles.K though that convinced me. If this little camera was capable of this kind of Zeiss like 3D pop, IQ, warmth and saturation....then I am sold.
Thanks guys, I'm ordering one today.
I'll blame it on you guys when my wife notices the $$$ missing from the checking account.

Thank you very much for the kind words, MovinMan
Helena, amazing series of images really showcasing the RX1!
Wayne, lovely shot of the dogwood tree.
Phil, very nice graphic shots and lovely portraits!
Shot from the other evening, at 6400 ISO @ f/2.0 I am finding using the combo of AF/MF with the AEL button works well for focusing on the eyes.

Charles, nice portrait of your wife! Glad Sony gave you a new replacement camera!
Helena, like the clouds in the first Ustasen shot!
Here is the first of a few landscape shots from my wildflower hike last Sunday.
This is one of my favorite hikes even though it has a steep 2,000 ft vertical rise to it.
Last year I did the hike with camera bag loaded with my 1ds3 and 3 zeiss lenses.
This year was sooo much nicer only carrying a light backpack with water and snacks along with the RX1.
Shot this with a polarizer on and just added +10 vibrance, adjusted WB, no saturation and just added sharpening and resizing for web. Pls. let me know if the colors and WB look ok!
TIA!

Thanks Wayne Wonderful shot, and amazing region! Colors look great, though I find the RAW files too conservative compared the JPEG's coming straight out.

Just was not sure if my WB was too warm or not after warming it up some from the the too blue WB the camera selected.

Wayne, that looks great to me, very natural/realistic. What a beautiful location and photo of it.
Charles, lovely light and colors in that flower shot.
Another from my daily walks. (It bothers me a bit that the railings aren't at all in focus - I should have focused slightly further away or stopped down a little more.)

While I'm at it, here's a shot from the guard house at the Air Defense radar station. It's a military area, but there isn't even a gate.
(Heavily cropped - this is approx. a third of the original frame - and ISO 3200 with no NR.)

Helena, your bridge photo is special because of the strong composition and unearthly light, subtle colour with high yet smooth tones on the road surface. So the impact is largely related to these aspects.
To be honest it adds to the image that the rails are uniformly OOF and fading slowly - a kind oof sci-fi look, and very pleasing for it. [Come to think of it not many 35mm lenses could do this so well, due to the RX1's very flat field at this focal distance, and bokeh characteristics.]
Great job with vertical lines also. This is the kind of image the DR really helps deliver.

Got the RX1 in the mail right before leaving work yesterday. Picked up my wife and daughter to head out for a bite to eat....took some quick shots to get a feel for the cameras images. They were shot in JPEG since I havent updated my copy of LR and LR3 wont handle the cameras RAW files.
Im very pleased with the way the Zeiss lens handles colors and gotta love that full frame image.
