Re: RX1 Image Thread

Thanks everyone! You\'re too kind.

Joan, now I want to go out and purchase some tulips.

Charles, great to hear that you got a brand new RX1!
I have been reluctant to try such high ISOs but that looks usable for small prints. I have sewn a tiny hood from thin white fabric and use it as a diffuser on the built-in flash when it\'s just too dark, and results are surprisingly decent. Good enough for the family album anyway.

What an interesting reply, I was wondering the same thing and thought that you must have been using HDR but now I really want to know how you got those photos above of the abandoned cottages. If you are carrying a tripod on these long walks, which one are you using? I notice that your Flickr stream has quite a few 5D photos.
These are my two walk around cameras and I am looking for a suitable tripod.
That quality of light is amazing and I would love to know the time of day and if you used any other lighting techniques or just used ambient light. Please post those fantastic images of Norway.
Helena, I look forward to seeing what you show of your environment with the change in seasons. You made winter look lovely, now for spring, summer and autumn.

Thank you for the kind words! I rarely use a tripod, but brought one this time since I knew I was going to check out those cabins. A couple of months ago I bought a relatively inexpensive Benro \"A155FBR0\" Aluminium tripod especially for RX1 and have been very happy with it so far. Max height is 130cm, it folds down to 40cm and weighs only 800g. It\'s supposed to be able to handle up to 2kg, but the few times I bring 5D I take my old Manfrotto tripod instead.

When I visited the abandoned cabins it was in the middle of the day, overcast and quite grey, so I was surprised to see the nice saturated colors the camera captured. No flash or other artificial light. The stove was in a very dark corner so a 8 sec. exposure was needed and perhaps that helped with the colors. Since there are no windows in the frames DR wasn\'t an issue. Not much post processing on the first two, but I played a bit in Lightroom with the door detail.

A couple from yesterday\'s walk (I wish I had known the light would be so great, then I\'d taken a trip out to the fjord or something):
