Owned the original rx1r. Considering the mark 3 vs a a7v + 35 1.4 GM. I own a leica q, but really miss the 35mm pop from the rx. It’s hard to replicate. The sony a7v would serve multiple needs such as video in addition to stills. But would love that zeiss pop lol

anyone own both the rx1r mk3 AND the leica q3 43? I'd like your perspective. I'm mulling a purchase between the two. I currently own both the original rx1 and q. I'm very partial to the 35mm look and pop. Cant seem to replicate this anywhere, even with ILC.

I have both... What do you shoot mostly?
I like the size of RX1R III with added grip and thumb grip eg easier to pocket for a daily camera, but it has smaller evf & non-tilt lcd. AF is excellent compared to older models. Q3 43 has very sharp apo lens that can be used wide open eg excellent for landscapes. It needs a bag, a grip and thumb grip for my use. Firmware update IV has improved the af a lot with Q3 43 eg brought animal eye af. Also Q3 has optical stabilization though not as good as latest IBIS cameras... My biggest problem with Q3 43 is mfd of 60m~2' in normal use before the macro mode esp with pets indoors. Also max aperture of Q3 drops to f2.8 in macro mode. In addition, I use the Freewell 1.5x converter and it increases the mfd more...
I used both Freewell 0.75x wide angle and 1.5x converters with RX1R III. The corners vignette with teleconverter for landscape shots, but it works for closer portraits. Here is one shot of RX1R III with 1.5x converter:

As your only travel camera, I would go with a Q3 variant. In order of importance: weather sealing, tilt screen, better IQ and seamless wifi transfer to IOS/Android.
I have owned multiple RX1Rs and Qs. If the rx1rmk3 had weather sealing and tilt screen, I would seriously consider replacing Q3 with it, but I really do use tilt screen a lot. Leica's mobile app integration has gotten so good, I can take a picture on a trip and transfer everything to my phone and edit on LR mobile in a coffee shop. The size difference for the bodies is very significant.
The Sonnar on the Rx is amazing. It's one of my all time favorites, so I have no problem it doesn't get updated. The 28 Lux on the Q and the 43 Apo on the Q43 do look sharper with better micro contrast. You won't see it unless you blow it up. I would say there are more "regular" pictures I have taken with the Q that give me a wow feeling compared to the RX. But the Sonnar melts background like it's a 50mm. It's very dreamy.
If you like how the Sonnar melts the background, Q43 may be the more natural path. I though about replacing Q3 with Q43 too because I'm more of a 35 guy, but I do travel with M11 and 35 Lux, so I do have that covered. If it's my only camera, I would still pick Q3 28mm for all around versatility. It just won't deliver you those creamy portraits the RX and Q43 can.

Nice shot. Which one do you gravitate to more out of the rx1 vs 43? I still love the leica q and the 28mm. But find it too wide at times. When I shot with the rx1 over ten years ago, the images had an insane pop that was hard to describe. However, I'm conflicted, because I am a bit of a snob like like the gear envy from others that the leica gets OL. to me. 35mm'ish would've been perfect. that leica rendering is something else entirely as well.

I am not 35mm shooter and still shoot with RX1 with the wide/tele converters, so one camera covers it in a smaller package... I am behind on processing as my hard drive is full to post more examples... I shot Contax g 45mm and GRIIIX, so I like the 43mm, but it is on the short end with the pets indoors esp with the mfd macro mode annoyance as posted in other Q3 43 thread: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1939975/0#17021182
I usually pick up OMD1 II+Pana 14-140mm (covering 28-280mm) for my daily in the same bag that I use for Q3 43 as I shoot more slower landscape shots handheld on my dog walks, so it depends on what you shoot: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1939768/0#17020436
You can always buy one used and switch if you don't like it...
