Christmas is a Sunday Even then. One day is different than 5 days. I even get frustrated when things are closed on protestant holidays and I grew up in the church!
Oh and BTW. This has nothing to do with religion. I could care less about the reason, I just know that as a business person, closing a major company with thousands of clients can't be good for business. Obviously there are a lot of opinions on this since it has had MASSIVE response here on the boards.
during the summer months there are US companies that close manufacturing for retooling for generally 1-2 weeks. planned for event
in asia you have golden weeks (big holiday). lots of closed doors. many airlines cancel flights for days when these occur (do you know how much it costs to keep a 777 on the ground not making revenue?) oh yeah thats cargo not moving for days out of asia. hint hint where are most cameras made? within reason a planned for event
many companies close for christmas week. planned for event
christmas is on a sunday this year and B&H will be open on that day. when its on a friday they will close early and again when on a saturday it will be closed. planned for event
really you don't know as much as you think you do about how business is done
i know these are none of your concerns because you think they have no immediate direct affect on you. but they might/can/and do.
you need to think outside your rather small box
now at 7:30pm EDT today this whole discussion will be moot till the next series of holidays show up and the another "special person" decides to throw the first stone about it.

That comment is an example of "moral relativism." Contrary to your seeming belief, some behaviors should not be tolerated. People should speak out against evil. Evil?
Those who have weeks and months to plan everything for the next few months .. not all people live like that. Some people spend on impulse - I know I do. And if you're a business owner, you should realize there are millions of impulse shoppers. If you're not available when someone wants something, then the money goes to a competitor. Ideals are great - when you have lots of time.
And if B&H has the right to shut down .. a shopper has the right to complain on FM. And we all have the right to muck it up with asinine comments like mine right above.

closing for that kind of holiday, for periods that long, is disrespectful of their customers who don't believe in that religion (whatever holiday we're talking about)
Announcing it in advance doesn't excuse it.
dumbest quote of the day... i can now go out and shoot with gear i bought from B+H.

Do you buy cars and homes on impulse too? The store is only closed for a week or so. EBH
Sometimes. That's how my driveway is flooded with BMWs and Jags and Ferraris.
I am a business. I sell my skills and product. People buy what I have to offer. Photography.
I'm 'closed for business' a lot of time. I like to sleep 10pm to 5am. I negotiate with a client for a time to shoot. I have things to do and want to do. The client has things to do. We talk and we find an agreeable time. Any other time finds us both, the client and I, 'closed for business'.
I don't care why a client is 'closed for business' nor why a vendor is 'closed for business'. I know that to do business with them we'll both have to agree on a time to do business.
Shoot my kid. Well, the kid gets out of daycare at .... This Man or Woman has just eliminated and just defined when.
Get a photograph of such and such. Ok. I'm totally constrained by sunlight. Landscape. There is no 24/7. The world turns.
When I moved from a larger center to a small town I found it difficult. I couldn't just get up and go buy something. I adapted.
Expecting someone to sell you what you want at anytime is unresaonable. The store, b&H, is 'open for business' at certain times. Deal with these people or don't. They have said when they are 'open for business'.
I have bought something from B&H. Good transaction. They delivered and I paid. Good.
If the people behind B&H decide to 'close for business' that is their decision. If they choose to run their business that provides me with good product at good prices. I will deal with them. As owners of the business they can decide when they are 'open for business'.

Religion?
no
they just don't have enough competition.
If business slows down, and the bottom line suffers, I bet they woould work any day including the Lord's day to make a buck.
