p.9 #1 · B&H Closing

I understand where you are coming from, and it is, as noted by others, a place existing solely in your imagination.

Prove it.

I already demonstrated how it's not; ignore it if you will.

laurapalmer wrote:
...How is it not horrible to give someone rules which are impossible to live up to, and then telling them the punishment for breaking those rules will be an eternity of torture?

Let me just say here that what you claim we believe is not, in fact, what we believe nor what we teach.

laurapalmer wrote:
...If you are a parent, would you say to your child, "I love you, but if you break my impossible list of rules, I will not only stop loving you, but I will send you to burn, conscious, for all of eternity." These are not things a loving person, god, or friend would say to another being.

You're right; a loving person wouldn't say that, nor would a loving God: instead we say things like...

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
-Romans 3:23-

(We know that no person, not any, is perfect.)

and...

For God so loved the world that He sent his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not parish, but have everlasting life.
-John 3:16-

(The rules ARE hard to follow; nearly impossible. But there is Hope for anyone who asks for it, including the worst of the rule breakers, because God said he would NEVER stop loving us, even though we don't always deserve His love.)

and...

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.
-Ephesians 2:8-9-

(We know we can't work our way to heaven, because we know that we're likely to break some rules from time to time. But we also know that because God loves us unconditionally that all we have to do is our best, and that even if that's not very good, we'll be okay if we don't reject His love.)

If you are truly interested in learning how misinformed your view of Judeo-Christianity is, PM me and I'll be happy to send you some links to sites that go over what we really believe. For now, I'll leave it at that.

Sorry, everyone, for going so far off topic, but I couldn't let Laura's misperceptions sit here unanswered for all to see.

Do you really think anybody's actually reading this drivel between the two of you?

I just thought of another great reason to support B&H's owners and their decisions:

They don't proselytize.

This post is the real reason for this thread's existence; I know, because God caused me to see that.

Interesting that an absurd comment from a member with fewer than thirty posts would trigger this avalanche of inanity mixed with profundity that has nothing to do with photography. Ain't the internet grand!

And this comment made wading through the turgid religious digressions tolerable. At least one person can both think clearly AND maintain a sense of humor. Priceless! Thanks Smiert.

Hey, if you can lie to kids about a big fat jolly man coming by in a reindeer-chariot, throwing wrapped gifts down chimneys, then lying about hell is fine too.
WTF!?!

That is the best summation of "life on the Internet" that I ever read.

I think they call that an analogy, albeit an unusual one.

The only meaningful question left now is if this thread will be closed before the stores reopen.

We need to put this thread to an end. We read many points of view but at this point, nothing positive will come out of this. I am personally a fan of B&H photo and respect their business decisions.
