it was the first version of the rokkor 50 macro. it's not a rangefinder lens it is the same basic optical design as the later 50/3.5 macros. it just comes in m39 mount with a screw on md mount.
i actually just bought it to take it's helicoid and focus ring and stick my contax 45/2 in them (as inspired by m-a-x).
Interesting. I found one photo of the Rokkor 50 macro M39 and it went for almost $600. The M39 extension didn't look like it had a helical and was about an inch thick. Was the purpose for an extension?

I think he meant to remove the optics and shoehorn the 45/2 in there, Ive been looking for candidates too, But I've been looking at Russian glass(Helios 44, Jupiter 8, 3....)

Found any likely suspects? I just purchased an old Contax Sonnar 50/1.5 in Contax mount that needs a backend.

indeed that is my plan, because i love rokkor helicoids and focus rings – but if the lens is somehow worth $600 that plan will change...
i'll post pictures of my new acquisitions in a bit.
it did come with a couple minolta SR mount extension tubes. one of which the SR mount unscrews revealing some other type of screw mount that is neither m39 or m42, perhaps T-mount? not sure exactly what the point is.

i've only taken a few shots with the lens around the yard. it's sharp like i'd expect from a macro with even worse bokeh then your usual macro (at least wide open). the m39 to minolta SR adapter has allowed me to use my jupiter-3 as a macro lens on film though....Show more →
Ah, got it. So it's like a modular lens head. Well, then I'll be interested to see shots of the final product if you use it for the conversion.

it's the 40mm summicron i'm really excited about. i don't have the adapter yet but the rendering is beautiful in my free lensing shots. color is fanastic, the focus transition is beautiful, and it captures amazingly subtle detail. unfortunately, flare control is pretty terrible (anybody know if the m-rokkor is better?). i suspect the contax g 45 is probably a better lens, but i think this lens will end up getting a lot more playing time. i just like the look of leicas and rokkors better.
It's an exciting little lens and while I do agree the 45 would score better in objective testing, perfectionism is boring and a little fascist. The 40 'cron has what some would call "soul," others, "mood." I prefer "distinct character."

the big problem with more of them seeing use is so few actually exist. this means prices are already as high as modern high grade lenses (or worse) and their mostly bought/traded amongst collectors. there were adapters for µ4/3 and regular 4/3 as well, i don't think many saw use. i saw somebody on flickr who has been getting his converted to nikon mount too.
I just got a super deal on a Contarex Bullseye with 21mm, 50mm and 85mm + accessories. So now I'll have three 50:s, but the 21 and 85 are new to me.
I don't even know if the 21 can be mounted on NEX, but I'm really hoping it'll work. Both the 21 and the 85 are legends, so I'm really looking forward to trying them out when I receive them.

I just scored a Minolta MD X 45/2 for $15 plus a couple dollars for shipping. This is the cheapest lens price I've every paid. Hoping to use on E-PL1, along with the MD 35-70, along with some Nikon lenses -- come on camera & adapters, get here already!

Contarex has a register of 46, so it should be no problem so long as the adapter doesn't screw things up.
I just finished re-lubing a CZJ MC 28/2.8 and I finally have a mount I can use it on(MD-NEX) and I replaced the detent ball I lost the last time I had peak inside to re-lube but quit after the ball vanished. So it's kinda new.

So Contarex doesn't have external aperture control, right? Is there an iris in the lens or was it in the camera? If it's in the lens, do the adapters allow you to control it or do they have an iris in them?

Nice looking Rokkor, still going to re-purpose it for the Contax G? I have the newer MC version with tube, I'm looking forward to taking it for a spin on the 7.
I'll have to do some group shots one of these days.

i still need to check into the allegations that it's worth a lot more than i thought. replacing the optical cell with one from the contax will require a little widening of the opening in the in helicoid on the lathe and i'll definitely have to trim down the internal hood or replace it with something else, but otherwise the procedure looks to be pretty straight forward.
is your MC version built like 58/1.2 or does it have one of the more difficult mounts to replace like 28/2, 35/1.8, 50/1.4, etc?
But I think I need to replace the focusing screen with something brighter. Any suggestions?
The HBL is smaller than I thought, here compared to the mighty Pentax 67II and 90/2.8.
