what do you mean discovered? it seems to sell for nearly the price of the current makro-planar already. if you've go a source for cheap contarex lenses pm me.
I mean discovered in the fashion that people actually use them. I mean this is the alt forum, and aside from my own, I've seen zero posts of Contarex images.
These lenses have been impossible to adapt, but with NEX that has changed. I don't think people are aware.
As for the price, the Planar 50/2 is possible to get for $4-500 including a Contarex bullseye body on ebay. The body can be sold for at least $200, so the cost of the lens is pretty low. I bought mine locally for far less. The orher fast Contarex lenses are up there with the MP, but I think they're mostly bought by collectors as the production numbers were extremly low, driving prices up.

the big problem with more of them seeing use is so few actually exist. this means prices are already as high as modern high grade lenses (or worse) and their mostly bought/traded amongst collectors. there were adapters for µ4/3 and regular 4/3 as well, i don't think many saw use. i saw somebody on flickr who has been getting his converted to nikon mount too.

All this rampant, unreserved bashing may upset my belief that AF generally sucks and it's really a matter of which brand sucks less.
No need to upset your beliefs on this. It still holds true.

Got a chance to take some pics of my FD 50-300mm f/4.5L:
It's not small:
Given its range and constant aperture, though, it really doesn't look that bad. At least it doesn't completely overwhelm the GH2. The GF looks like a P&S that had some surgical corrections to it's "deficiencies," but that would be true of any of the small cameras.

In reverse order of recent purchases...
1. Contax N 70-300 (converted). Bought from a fellow FMer and still en route.
2. Contax N 24-85, with N1 rear lens cap Currently en route to Conurus
3. Leica Macro-Elmarit R 60/2.8 - loving its ability as a reasonable all round lens (on 1D3 at least)

I didn't know this lens existed. I'll be very interested to see the samples.
it was the first version of the rokkor 50 macro. it's not a rangefinder lens it is the same basic optical design as the later 50/3.5 macros. it just comes in m39 mount with a screw on md mount.
i actually just bought it to take it's helicoid and focus ring and stick my contax 45/2 in them (as inspired by m-a-x).
i've only taken a few shots with the lens around the yard. it's sharp like i'd expect from a macro with even worse bokeh then your usual macro (at least wide open). the m39 to minolta SR adapter has allowed me to use my jupiter-3 as a macro lens on film though.
it's the 40mm summicron i'm really excited about. i don't have the adapter yet but the rendering is beautiful in my free lensing shots. color is fanastic, the focus transition is beautiful, and it captures amazingly subtle detail. unfortunately, flare control is pretty terrible (anybody know if the m-rokkor is better?). i suspect the contax g 45 is probably a better lens, but i think this lens will end up getting a lot more playing time. i just like the look of leicas and rokkors better.

I'm trying to figure out which alt lens should be my next purchase. Anyone find a real gem that works well with the Fuji x-Pro 1? All I have now is the 35/1.4 Fujinon.
