East River Generating Station (1926). It was once powered by coal and subsequently converted to natural gas. It provides electricity and steam for most of Manhattan south of 36th street.

Pio Fedi's "Freedom of Poetry" 1876, Basilica Santa Croce Florence:
The strong resemblance with Lady Liberty may not be coincidental. Bartholdi visited Italy (1875-1876) before his work began on the Statute of Liberty.

Two lillies. They have really shone this season. However, the first rains of the season are here and they've had a lot of rain dumped on them since Wednesday. They now look a bit sorry for themselves. These are from last weekend.
As an equal opportunity user, Df has had little action this month. I aimed to correct this yesterday morning but ended up spending half the day seeing nothing but $ signs. A story for another day.
I particularly enjoyed the crispness of the first one. Old cropped to 4:3. Second one, as shot.

It was while taking this picture, after a few others, where I felt the Df shutter button felt off. I ran my finger on it and it just felt very different. I looked at it and noticed, I don't remember this hole being naked like this. To try shorten a long story, the AR-11 soft shutter button had fallen off somewhere in the garden. I spent bits of the morning going out, retracing my steps, what I'd shot, where I'd placed the tripod. The tiny AR-11 in a garden version of the needle in a haystack story. It was drizzling. There is enough ground cover to make the thing disappear. I see it's not discontinued and prices range from $28 and up. I'll have to import one. Price not bad, it's the shipping that's killer. That's the $ signs.
Fast forward to early afternoon when the weather had cleared up and while chatting to my wife she mentions something about me needing to rest. Me: The garden swallowed a piece of my camera, I need to go try and look for it again or I'll have to spend money. Concerned spouse fires off many questions, now I need to describe the thing she's going to help me look for. While still explaining how much the thing costs and how small it is, I strike luck. Lifting up a daisy bush and there it was. It fell all the way down into the soil. It must have happened when I put the tripod over it to take this picture. Why couldn't I find it when she wasn't there? I went out at least four times before.

Glad the lost is found. I went through a similar thing at work last Friday, spent two hours looking for someone's stuff, couldn't find it, so closed out short. Next day, the guy came in and pulled what we were looking for out of the drawer, which we had looked in like ten times each.
