Actually "Stivali Italia" (Italian boots) is an iconic 1986 work by Cinzia Ruggeri where the shape of the Italian peninsula becomes a wearable boot, while Sicily and Sardinia are two clutch bags. The outline of the country has inspired artists of all ages, but with Ruggeri it becomes a functional sculpture, not only a symbol of Made in Italy, but its genuine product and, at the same time, an ironic and caustic statement. A representation of femininity and the overturning of the conventional notion of what a work of art, a design object and a fashion accessory is. The body of the person who wears the boots shapes the outline of Italy and is in turn shaped by it.
