Nice to see you using a camera that we mere mortals can relate to, George!
Maybe I should explore more with my Df and 28/2 (maybe start a thread) - that is if spring would ever come to stay here in western Montana. We've had 3 or 4 goes at it, but then it has always been off again - now with snow in the forecast.
That would be an interesting thread and count me in if you do. I have not used this combo in a long time. Actually took it along to use as a behind the scenes camera and ended up shooting with it the most. Such a great kit. Can't beat looking through an optical prism finder.

@GeorgeBo@@, I agree with the need for speed. I was shooting at 1/8-1/15 mostly, I had to get out at 6:30 to get any shooting in. I知 a little less impressed with the borders at f2.8 so maybe faster and a stop down would help? I知 in Morehead City now though after 1 night home, busy week!
@leighton w@, definitely in the market. Never considered myself a 28mm guy but got a f/3.5, f/2.8, 28-50 and I keep reaching for them despite other good options.
Edit, everyone making me want a Df now too! There was a good deal in BST the other day.
Are you utilising those new manual focus aids that the Zf offers?
Colin
I sure am Colin, I basically get the focus in the ball park then use the 200% zoom that. I have asigned to the AE AL Lock button......works a treat and the onboard IBIS is amazing.........shooting hand held at 1/15 with a 90mm lens.

I'm more of a 28mm guy over the 35mm. I had a 35/1.4 ais at one time and it was a great lens, I just never warmed to it.
Talking about the difference between the 28 and 35 reminds me of a discussion Reagan and I had on here several years ago.
Reagan said that he liked the 28 better because he could crop tighter if he needed to. I've always liked that idea.
Tinkering results using the D850 with the EL-Nikkor 40mm f4 Reversed, PB-4, PS-5, homemade stage, and bits and bobs.
My Jonathon Apple tree is blooming extremely fast this year, and looks to be over in just a few days. the Photosynthesis site claims the 40mm f4 EL-Nikkor can reach between 5x-30x. All of these were not cropped except about 10% of the money plant, and cover a subject area of approximately 2-3 millimeters square. I just found a used X&Y mini stage with 5mm of travel on each axis - plus adhesive wax should make this even easier. I also focus stacked between 5-14 images for each of these.
It had been a while and I had almost forgotten about Reagan's propensity to excitedly talk about a lens or camera he had just acquired, and then poof he sold it. I remember complaining to him I had just started to enjoy his photos with something or other and the next moment it was gone
I am plotting to get over to Bombay Hook early tomorrow and get some birding pictures.
Someone at work who has a place near there told me that one of the driving loops has been closed off because wildlife paparazzi were camped out with lawn chairs all day, getting too close to wildlife, including a fox family.
Here's the text from the US Fish and Wildlife Service on the situation:
Bear Swamp Loop Closed
We've closed the Bear Swamp Loop of the Wildlife Drive at Bombay Hook to protect the fox mother and kits that have been facing increasing harassment from photographers.
The area is closed to ALL entry. No vehicles, bicycles, or walking.
The Allee House, Pasture Point Pond, and Finis Pool may still be accessed.
We will do occasional drive-bys to ensure folks are obeying the closed signs. The closure is temporary but there is no re-open date at this time. We will periodically assess the situation and once it appears that the foxes have moved from the area, and it's safe to reopen, we will do so.
