Been busy liking all your wonderful photos, and trying to get out there and shoot a bit.
IR with the 50mm f1.2 ais is very easy to get excellent focus, and isn't as temperamental as the 55mm f3.5 ai'd Nikkor. These are crops from two stitched images taken yesterday.
I wanted to get down to the base of the falls, but the area had very heavy rain and was a vertical mud slope at that point. Plus it started thundering as I was getting into position for this shot. So we cut the walk short. Something to target another day.

Siphiwe - good to see the V3 getting some love. That is one camera/format I never shot. The extra "reach" it gives lenses is a bonus.
There's still a lot of love for this format in my world. Its quirkiness ensures it remains interesting to me after all these years.
BTW, beautiful take on that waterfall. Was the vignette added in post?
The Z 40 and 28mm have been on sale for the past two months here. Having enjoyed the 40mm on Z5, I eventually sprung on the 28 hoping for a similar view when mounted on Z50. I'd been using the AF-S 28mm G on FTZ. Anyway, I have been very surprised at the vignette of the Z 28mm wide open. It's as heavy as I've observed from AF-D 28mm 2.8 on Df.
Thanks, and yes I added the vignette in post to put emphasis on the center of the image. I could not get into a position to limit the amount of foliage in view. It was a really steep hillside with limited views at that level.
I have only used the Z 40mm and 28mm lenses on the crop sensor so I am probably not seeing the vignette of the 28mm wide open.
Are you applying the lens profiles for the Z lenses in your post processing software?
Colin - do you have the 28mm?
George

You just became my HERO! You shot a waterfall to my ideal of perfection!! I have really come to tire of ultra cotton candy water in what are otherwise beautiful landscapes. Your exposure and shutter speed were to my taste absolutely perfect! I know it's an artistic choice, and this is just my personal preference. No offense intended to all the artistically gifted out there!
No, I do not have the Z 28 so cannot comment first hand about vignetting.
I am tempted to pick one up given the Nikon 10% off sale here in the UK at the moment.

I've been away for about a week, but have enjoyed catching up on the great photography that has been posted. I see that Reagan even posted a photo of his beautiful Chevelle.
George, is that Stumphouse Tunnel in Walhalla, SC? Those are both excellent shots.
I finally got to do a little photography yesterday. I took a trip to Berry College to photograph a pair of nesting bald eagles. I shot those with AF lenses, but took my IR converted Z50 and took a few photos with it. These were made with the 55/3.5 AI'd.

Yes it is Stumphouse. My son moved to Oconee county (lives just across Lake Hartwell from Clemson campus). Went up to check out the hiking trails and mountain bike trails but the bike trails were closed from all the rain. So we explored the tunnel and Isaqueena Falls.
Going back down in a couple of weeks and try again

Also like the way your Outback pops against the background. Nice car. We just traded our 2018 for a Wilderness edition this week. White with black trim. Ready for our monthly SC road trips now

I have vignette control at Normal and use Studio which brings across the camera setting. I have found when opening the images that it there are corrections applied. It does clean up nicely and in its defense it brings more focus to the subject. It's gone by F4. Thom also observed the same in his review.
Strangely, my first impression when I shot it was "Oh, this is a lovely lens" in contrast to the 40mm which I expected to love(blame Colin's talent) but in practice feels forgetable. I like that they are exactly the same size.
I think enough of the AF lens talk. I'll have to make up for it with a MF'd picture now.
I tried out the Topaz suite that was PSA'd last month and liked it enough to buy. Missed the special though. Still finding my way around it but we seem to be getting along.

Much nearer fireworks time iirc, 60 seconds wide open. (Unfortunately the fireworks weren't due to start until the sky was black.)
The blue/red dashed lights on the river are from the flashing lights of the River Police. The boats you see are all anchored up having bought their berth in advance, the River Police going back and forth keeping the river channel clear for the RiverCat Ferries and keeping everything clear of the fireworks barge on the opposite bank.
The F-18 ? Hornet jets flying low above the river earlier was amazing too, the noise Oh the noise !!!
