I have an issue with my 28 Summicron that I discovered today: the frontpart or ring has become somewhat misplaced, the hood is tilting a little when properly attached and the withe dot is right between 2 and 2.8 when the lens is wide open.
I noticed there are two small screws on the ring, is this something I can fix myself or do I need to send it away for repairs?
Could it be a problem to use the lens until it has been fixed?
Finally and yes! Finally took my MM out for a spin, love the simplicity of this camera, no nonsense compared to the other wiz-bang gee whizz cameras I have!
We had an ice storm a few days before Christmas...lot of damaged trees and power outages. Some of my neighbours haven't had power since the weekend and the temperatures were sub-zero. Went for a quick walk late the afternoon and took a few shots. All with the Elmar 24/3.8
p 861
Rocky, really nice shot!
Gary, great beach scenes!!! The detail with the M240 and 21 SEM is amazing as is the color rendering. This is where the M240 combo, just shines above as Phil mentioned, the "whizz bang" machines
Pandorf, really nice shot!
Allen, love the pensive portrait!
Kurt, great to see your superb series!!!
Joe, Merry Christmas too Very nice feel!
p862
Doug, very nice, particularly the last image.
Allen, Merry Christmas to you also.
Jabber, really nice portrait!
Lenticular, nice PP'ing
Nico, great simple and elegant compositions!
Kurt, superb street set!!! Amazing portraits, particularly #3,4 and 5.
Joakim, beautiful tonality and rendering! Very nice
p863,
Doug, nice graphic images.
Ryan, some amazing shots!
Phil, hard to beat the M-M! Excellent set. Yes, the best camera is the one you feel at home with.
Cal, beautiful Winter scenes!!!
Allen, neat composition.

Any advice is appreciated.
I had this problem once with my 28Cron, my front most ring had a slight "play" and the hood alignment was also slightly off center. Not 100% sure but I was told that there isn't a locking pin on most (if not all?) M lenses to center the widest aperture white dot to 12 o'clock, so we should always be careful with handling front ring, especially when removing or adjusting hoods, otherwise you could knock it out of alignment.
On my 28Cron, when the front ring became wobbly, I tightened the screws but it only worked temporarily and the front ring came loose after a short while. After a few adjustments, my lens was also front focusing. At this stage, I sent it back for adjustment and it now works with no issues. I would say, try to tighten on your own first, and then check for back/front focus and if it works, don't need to send it in right away. If you can help it, try to avoid grabbing the lens hood when picking up the lens.
Btw, excellent shots with the 28Cron, especially last two.
I just woke from a long winter's nap, tonight after pigging out at a burger place this afternoon. (no photos, sorry), and a hard afternoon playing billiards with my buddy. Good times... I think we played about 12-15 games.
I think I just got those CC b@st@rds paid off for my MM, if they get my $100.00 credit applied from rewards now... Whew, those big hits are tough, huh Phil?
