A 100% crop from the unprocessed image. Something went funky in the background when I first processed it, those blue/green bits at the top aren't meant to be there.
Paul, I hope you don't mind me crashing your thread with Leica X1 pictures, but this is the thread that comes closest to being the right place to post them.
I just got the camera so this was my first attempt at using it..
I had heard that the Elmarit 24 ASPH was a really good lens and you've certainly proven that. The first two in partciular are reach out and touch shots. Be forewarned though that Paul Yi is the king of bench shots so be careful there.
The volvo shot and subway shot are very nice.Is the Lx1 a fixed lens and body combo?
Here is question for the Leica users.Suppose I was wanting to trade gear and move to Digital Leica. My Budget is $3000 I figure i might be able to get a body and one lens. What combo would you recommend?
-Jim
M8 or M8U and CV Ultron 35/1.7 or Summicron 40. The CV is out of production but you see them fairly often. Another choice which I've heard is good but haven't tried is the Zeiss Biogon 35/2. There's also the CV Skopar 35/2.5. Too slow for my taste in this FL range but it's the cheapest of that group. If you decide to go that way, PM me and I'll make you a good deal on one.
Luka, you are going about this test in absolutely the wrong way. You are so good a photographer that your talent overwhelms whatever weaknesses the equipment might have. In order for a test like this to be conclusive, you need to entrust the camera to a fellow who has no talent at all, so that only the equipment's performance will shine through -or not-. As it happens, I happen to be just this sort of totally worthless fellow. I will send you my details so that you may ship me your X1. Postage prepaid, of course! And no need to thank me. This sort of selfless humility and dedication are, I must say, my trademark...

I'm afraid however that you have disqualified yourself by your great photos in the Zeiss thread.
Wow, what a difference a night makes!
Thanks Thrice! Nice shot! I have the black one, few scratches, perfect optics and 6 bit coded, so it is only about 18 months old. It was owned by a photographer doing regular trips to Afghanistan, and having a body guard while he getting his shots. Just wish this lens could speak.
Excellent photos Paul. The colours and rendering are amazing. The ZM 35/2 Biogon is an excellent lens, in a similar line with the ZE's.
I really the shots, fixedgearmike. Fantastic travel cam.
Luka, amazing shots!!! : I am with Philber on this one. You will make some amazing shots with the camera.
Maybe a suggestion Paul, would be great to include the X1's within the thread.
Thanks Charles and Daniel - and Paul for including the X1
Daniel: I knew about the different brands of sensors (Kodak/Sony), but I was not aware of the difference in crop and that the M8 had a CCD sensor. Thanks!
Test of longer exposures (30 seconds) from my balcony. Had they made the bottom of the X1 just a millimeter thicker, it would have fitted into a standard Arca-Swiss clamp.. but no. Fortunately however the camera is so light that you can just place it on the plate of the ballhead on the tripod..
Luka, Nice shots, and great travel cam!
I have always felt the best photography is done, with the camera that you have with you, and not wishing it instead.
