Thank you Luka for the compliment I must say I do prefer the "Bruce Percy's" style rather than the full on assault style
There is a realm in between, where it is OK to approach people, and it is the skill of the photographer to communicate with people on the street. I always approach people in other countries, and make sure there is a connection, otherwise I could end up on the side of the road somewhere... permanently But then this is me.
Recently during a portrait workshop, it was interesting to watch even with a professional model, how people do not communicate and are so focused on taking the shot, and it shows in the final shots. So my way of thinking is, this a skill that I need to be improve and know how to use, in a moment, on the street to capture more of who the person is, rather the purely artistic form of the shot, and combining both. In many ways, this is more of a challenge.
Luka, I'm still on a M8 with 35mm effectively a 47mm.. still have a little bit of comfort zone if and when I get wider, I'll let you know if something happens to me
I agree will all, sometimes I have given up a shot just to stay away from trouble.. its a very fine and thin line
My utmost respect to those who shoot street close up in subways and trains, that takes a lot of courage and serious consequences if it does not work out
Thanks Joe,
that man does not look like somebody you want to mess with..
I have a Leica question and with all the knowledge here I thought this is a good place to ask.
Right now I have the 50 sonnar and a voigtlander 25 f4 on my M8.
I also have my old t1i from my pre leica days just incase i want to shoot macro or telephoto.
Heres my dilemma,
I often find that the 25 isn't wide enough for what I want. I'm looking for a superwide. The Voigtlander 12mm 5.6.
Of course I would try out this lens before buying, but if I decide to go the superwide route, one of my friends brought up a thought that I feel I must address. He said that I'm trying to put a screw into a piece of wood with a hammer. Meaning: the Leica isn't meant for a lens that wide as the viewfinder does not go that wide, and an external viewfinder wouldn't be rangefinder calibrated. So he suggests I get a wide lens on my T1i. I of course want to get it for the Leica but I have no experience shooting wide with an external vf.
For those of you who have a lens wider than 24 on a Leica,
what are your thoughts on this?
@joe: I was just thinking, looking at those shots, "wow that ultron is a good lens." I find it sharp and to be of excellent quality. tight focusing ring. Great at 1.7, but terrific at 5.6 as well. Looks a little funny (what was I thinking) with a silver lens on the black M8, but oh well. I'm not too concerned with it! Some other ultron shots a couple earlier pages in this thread.
Thank you joe Great street shot...excellent contrast of symbols, not a shot you would want hang around for
Kyle, what a great shot. Love the rendering and feel. What f stop was the shot...I am assuming 1.5.
photoArne, really like these street shots with the X1. Fav is #4.
Kyle, thrice often shoots landscapes with the18mm ZM, but this is on a M9. Personally the widest I go on the M9 is the ZM 25/2.8 just because it is an excellent lens, and keeping somewhat viewfinder lines.

Thanks!
You are correct, it was shot at 1.5 aperture.
Thanks for the insight, I'll look send a message to thrice. Yes, I've heard and seen great things from you from the ZM 25/2.8

Kyle, I don't have a superwide on the M8 yet, but I'm sure you can find a lot of very technical answers in the Rangefinder and Leica User forum. If you really want to compare lenses, check out Sean Reid's subscription site. He has all the wide angle lenses covered for the M8 & M9 and I find the reviews very good and objective. I think you need to be more concerned with cyan drift on the M8/M9 with superwide lenses. The external viewfinder is kind of cool

Thanks Jairy, I may give this lens a try. By the way, I checked out your blog. Very nice work! I see you are shooting a MP too
