Luka, great shots!!! #1 is excellent. #2 and 3 from the second, just love the colours and rendering
John, what a beautiful shot! Stunning colours
Alex, very nice shots! I really like #1!
Here is a quick comparison of the 75 CronAA and Lux, wide open, with the same settings a more formal style portrait of my son this afternoon, that he needed for a report style setting. First shot is with the 75 Cron AA and the second is with the 75 Lux taken with remote flash SB56 with a Nikon SC 28 cord. Very different renderings
Indeed the rendering is quite different. The 75 Cron is very nice but also fairly conventional in the rendering. The 75 Lux on the other hand creates a very nice feeling of volume. If I had to pick a shot for a formal purpose (attached to a CV or similar), I'd pick the Cron. Artistically however I prefer the 75 Lux shot by a large margin.
Alex, just curious if you were working the CV wide open or stopped down at all for those images?
Charles, there certainly is a difference. It's more than I would have expected.
Luka - I agree about taking gear on the plane, which I do whenever possible, however when you're traveling with a 400 2.8, several bodies, other lenses, etc. there is only so much you can fit in the overhead bins of a small 'commuter' plane. Some, like the ERJ-145 I took on the flight to Newark, don't have full size overheads and won't fit a Pelican 1510 roller, therefore it's necessary to gate check the case. The theory with gate checking is that the bags are handled carefully, and watching the handlers during many past flights, is generally the case. Unfortunately there seems to be exceptions at Newark, or so it seems.
My luck just ran out this time, after years of gate checking the Pelican without issues... at least it was 'only' a back-up body... but still very frustrating.
Great shots everyone!
Luka, you are a dangerous man - i was so sure I wanted the 50 ASPH, now I want the 35 Lux! But i keep telling myself, it's the photographer, not the lens, that plus the lack of inventory is keeping my wallet safe.
Merry Xmas to one and all and here's a shot from Luzern
Elmar 135 picked up in Milan's Foto Ottica Cavour.
Nice shots guys.
Charles thanks for posting the two 75 shots..
Denoir - glad your liking the 35lux, I've been thinking about one recently but of course only after missing a good priced one locally *sigh.
OFF TOPIC (sorry).. I have a big lens physics problem, hoping someone can help me out ASAP!
I'm going to make a new post so it doesn't take this one off topic, but all you smart lens know how guys please visit it, and visit it fast!

I taught myself printing (and photography) in just the past couple of years. I print in the bathroom. My enlarger, bought used, sits on a $30 microwave cart that I wheel into the bathroom when I print. Trays used to go in the bathtub, but I've graduated to a bigger bathroom and set them on the counter or a collapsible table.
The bar for entry is pretty low. The most expensive piece of darkroom equipment is my enlarger timer that I got new. You could definitely get a nice used one in for $50 or so, or even free with a craiglist enlarger, but I really wanted an f-stop timer.
Adam, I saw some 75 summiluxes for sale at classicconnection. Don't know if they are in your price range or if importing it is worth your time....Show more →
I'll go take a look at the site, see if I can make it work for me, thanks!
You saying this makes me want to print again.. We already have a red lamp shade in the room as a secondary light, so I could totally put an enlarger in here! BnW photography is fantastic, but I'd need to go to the states and buy an enlarger, they're $$$$$ here..
Nice shots from this page, Luka, John, Alex, Charles & KL.
Ron, sorry to read about your damaged cameras. Never a good feeling when it happens. I second your proposal for a 2nd M9
Charles, an interesting comparison of the 75 Cron & Lux portraits, I actually prefer the detail of the 75Cron this time round.
-------------------------------------
So my M9 came back this morning, monitor and vulcanite replaced under warranty. I didn't ask about the details of what went wrong as I was more concerned of getting it back for X'mas.
So, I shot 100% film for past 2 weeks. When I picked up the M9 this morning, it felt bulky, too many buttons, definitely less well built than my M6 and the shutter dial seemed "very rough" in comparison to my film M, jsut didn't feel as smooth as the M6. It actually made me appreciate my M6 even more! Worse, I went out for a walk, fired some frames and when I loaded into LR3, the pics felt "thin". Arrgggh... I might take a break from digital for a while.
Ulrik - they are surprisingly similar with some minor differences. The Leica is a bit sharper wide open while the Zeiss has somewhat higher local contrast. The Zeiss has a much smaller MFD (0.3 vs 0.7), but that's a rangefinder limitation. On the other hand the Leica is much easier to focus accurately - rangefinder focusing is really great for wide angle lenses.
Thanks Joe Nice capture with the Lux. Congrats on getting your M9 back but I'm sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the output.
I guess it's largely down to what you are used to. I personally actively dislike the colors one gets from film but I'm a digital guy through and through. To me film is something one can toy with but I don't see it as a serious tool. As for the "thin" rendering - that is in my experience for the most part related to the raw development in LR/ACR of M9 DNGs. You ge "thicker" or more "full" results with C1 for instance. My 5D2 produces a much "fuller" rendering and if you want it really "thick" then you should check out the Sony A850/900. So I din't think it's a film vs digital thing.
Denoir, I notice some red edges in your 35 summilux shots. I only have this when using a ultra wide angle like 18mm. Never seen it with a 35mm. You notice this to or is it my screen and post processing?
The pictures look wonderfull and really start me saving for the 35 lux.
Here a pic with the red colorcast from the 18mm.
Not as much snow as Sweden, but finally a white christmas in Holland

ps, how do you put the image in the center of the forum?
Agreed Luka and thanks for the suggestions, I might try C1 but I'll stick to the M9 for digital (for now.)
Yes, this is not a film vs digital thing. I like both. I grew up shooting film and its probably because of all the good memories that film brings back, plus Leica makes some very nice film cameras (toys?).
Thanks Bijltje Beautiful winter shots! The last windmill shot is my favorite.
Regarding the red - I'm currently using an uncalibrated laptop monitor so I can't say how significant the red shift is. I can definitely see some, but not enough to make be bother with CornerFix corrections. Snowy scenes are definitely the best way of detecting color shift.
As for centering the images - no idea. I just post the url to the image in the post without any tags.
Joe: Indeed. A digital M the same size and build as an M6 would be a dream come true.
Thanks!
About the reds, indeed it isn't to much present, and snow pictures are more critical offcourse, but looking back at your pictures I think its also about the post processing, in the lamppost picture (my favorite) on top of this page its yellow.
The rendering between the 75 Cron and Lux is so very different, and it is for this reason alone that I will keep the two. When I finally received the 75 Lux, I was going move on the 75 Cron. I do really like both the lenses now. The original intent for the 75 Lux was for portraits, but I am finding I love the rendering for landscapes and beach scenes as it is so unique. And sometimes the 75 Cron is better for certain portraits where sharpness is important. I find the 75 Cron for portraits is similar to the ZE 100MP. Artistically I prefer the 75 Lux
KL, very nice shots! #2 is my fav
Alex, very nice shot! I have always wondered about the CV 40/1.4 as it is meant to be an excellent lens.
Ron, very nice shot
Luka, excellent shots! My favourite is #2
Joe, very nice shot! I strongly suggest you try C1 Pro, and see the difference with the depth and richness of colours. I am sure Adobe with catch up shortly with their RAW conversion algorithms, since Leica has now aligned with LR3. It was great hearing Ron's perspective on PP as I had been very cautious in PP coming from Canon and Olympus RAW files. The Olympus colours and richness are great IMO, and was the reason I opted for the EP-1. The M9's DNG files are very RAW and do need character to be imprinted. I'm with Luka here, I would love to see the M9 the same size as the M6
Thanks Charles. Maybe I'll wait for the next round of LR3 profile upgrades. I'm not a firm believer in having too many software setups, it takes too long for me to learn a new software (I'm probably getting old to learn). I like LR3 for the convenience and maybe will stick to it even though it may not have the best output for the M9, but thanks for your suggestions.
