I rented this lens again. Trying to decided between it and the 35mm 1.4.

I think the 24mm is ahead right now.

Did a photoshoot with one of my friends babies. I think the results convinced my (pregnant) wife that we need to buy one of these to photograph our children.

These 2 weren't wide open since I had off camera lighting setup.

Nice baby shots Ryan! Excellent idea of taking these pictures so you can get the wife to sign off on getting this fine lens.
Screwdriver, like the sharpness of the Tiffany box shot. I think the background bokeh of this lens is better than its foreground bokeh. Not sure if others agree with that.

had 35G over weekend and my nightmare came true. 35G is almost as expensive, yet not as good as 24G :-(

Interesting? I started shooting with my 35f/1.8 on my D3 as much as I could to get a feel for what this FL would be like before I took the plunge toward the 24G. I like the 35FL and I would imagine the 35G to be a pretty good performer but the cost factor may weigh heavily for those who prefer wider and know the magic that comes from the 24G. It all comes down to how you want to use the lens. I prefer the 24G @ 1.4 whenever I am able to use it. This will be interesting to watch.

there is not much to elaborate. 35G is better at f2 then 35f2, but only a hair and only visible on D3x or (probably) DX. It is much worse wide open (CA, sharpness) then 24G.
35mm is my focal lenght, my middle name. 35G focuses not as close as f2, and much slower. I dont care for price, only focus override and that 1% of better IQ would justify my purchase, but other things are deal killer for me. Sad is that unlike 50mm i dont expect that there will be new version of 35 soon *cry*.

whatever anybody says, i am the least biased Nikon reviewer on the world. I am just not afraid to promote cheap or old lenses (50-300 ftw) even when i am going to meet with some hate .

Man, i am not even fanboy at all, TY, take care, Official C1, Mamiya, P65+ fanchick.

You can see from the MTF's for both 24/1.4G and 35/1.4G that the 24 is sharper in the center wide-open and the 35 is optimized to be more consistent across the frame.Unless you need AF, I would go with the new Zeiss ZF.2 35/1.4.
