I apologise for going off-topic again but it's a hot topic for me and I believe for others...
@Kittyk,
Is it possible that you have a bad copy? I know that Nikkors are not Sigmas... but...
If not, it seems that my way is simple: I'll keep the Zeiss 35/2 and I'll add an inexpensive 35/2 for situations when I need AF... But this is a shame, that after 24/1.4G and 85/1.4G Nikon to offer an ordinary 35mm/1.4 lens at a huge price tag, when everyone is waiting for years for this 35/1.4... That's a huge dissapointment for me! Or in Germany today is 1st of April?
sure it is possible i had bad copy. that is why i said i will try in some months again - i really want to love this lens, i do. But... I tried two copies in shop (didn't bought it), now i had it over weekend rented. I might post some samples, but there is enough samples on the net - it is fine, but rather yawn against f2... 24G was really WOW OMG WTF BBQ from start to end. I sleep with that lens and it have it's own place in vitrine even though i only took about 100 pics with that (not my fav focal lenght and i have PC-E).
Mishu: 85G is also not really miracle. At least it is better then D and is not like 5 times so expensive also i dont need that focal lenght that often as i use medium format for portraits.
Kittyk ,
you crushed a lot of hearts here man ....
i did not order a copy of the 35G as i have the 24G but i hope the 35G you have rented is just not accurate . i hope it is better .
i'm with kitty, tried out 35mm hoping to bring back fond memories like the 35L canon ..but alas i'll stick with the 35 f2. love the 24m G, orgasmic lens, my keeper.
also going to get the sigma 85 instead of the nikon 85 G, i cant seem to justify the $ difference, from trying them out.

nikon crashed mine (yet again), and lots of canon folks who was looking up to it to replace their 35Ls when they moved to dark side. . Nikon is just getting focused on zooms and mainstream, probably to not get rolled over by Sony. Sadly that is not my cup of tea.
I love my 35 f2 and it is good lens on the d3x I was really hoping for the 35 1.4 to be as good as the 24. I will wait and see what happens and then make the choice. Worse case I buy it try it out and return it if it is not worth the price.
