I have had my 5D II for a while and every-time I use it, I still learn something new about it! Unless you have used 5D II before and are really comfortable with it, I would be more inclined to say to use what you owned already and had used before long enough to know every thing about it.
Also, in defense of Adorama, I have to say that I have never had any issues with them and that includes delivery. If any surprises with delivery, it has always been that they delivered even sooner than I expected!
This is a very busy time of the year for businesses and carriers and it is only prudent to allow more time when we need things around such time....Show more →
Busy or not, if I pay $70 for next day shipping I expect it to arrive the next day. Especially when I am assured it will. No excuse.
Adorama screwed up an order I placed... two weeks before my second son was born I ordered the Ef 50 f/1.8... it never came. I cancelled the order... somehow UPS got blamed. Despite my paying an upcharge for the extra shipping.
Either way I haven't used Adorama since... B&H FTW for me.
A side note: anything I care about gets shipped Fedex, or USPS.

As you remind everyone on every possible occasion...... I'm normally a patient person, but I have to say that I am so fed up with your repeated bashing of every person who works for Adorama; 3 years ago I wasn't even in my post, nor were many of my current colleagues.
The OP has already been in contact with me and as soon as the office is open I will be checking why an individual salesman, [not the entire workforce of 500+ individuals], made a commitment that wasn't followed through.

they are sloooooow with shipping.
if I order from b&h before noon, I get stuff the next day (usually withing 24hrs w/UPS) with regular 3 day ground UPS here in DC. With Adorama the same transaction can take 3-4 days.
Provided there are no verification problems, (and UPS / FedEx pick up on time) we guarantee that any in-stock item ordered Mon-Thurs before 6pm will go out the same day.
I have yet to get the details on this specific order, but if I am correct, I believe that this was the day that we needed an extra UPS truck in the loading bay (because of the additional orders at this time of year) and it didn't turn up in time.
If that is the case, the salesman who the OP dealt with, would have had no way of knowing that this order wouldn't make it onto the truck....

I will insist they refund me for overnight shipping.
There is no question but that we would do so!

There is a cut off time for one day shipping which I think is 1PM.
Mon-Thurs it is 6pm (see above)

Also, someone best be at home when UPS comes to sign for the package. Because Adorama will not let you change the delivery so you can pick it up.
Not true; you can email me or call customer service to arrange ID verification prior to pick-up. What we can no longer allow is for individuals to call UPS to change those arrangements themselves (B&H have the same rule), due to the number of packages that were collected fraudulently in the past.

Adorama is at fault and Shit happens and it could have happened from any of the top resellers out there.
Either an individual salesman messed up, or the UPS truck didn't appear on time. The whole of the workforce are not to blame!

Yea - Helen will get your shipping refunded and she is the reason I shop now at Adorama almost exclusively.

I have ordered from B&H many times and have always called UPS to pick it up with no problems. Just picked up a $2000 order the other week. So B&H does not have the same rule.

BH in theory does have that rule, because they wouldn't do it for me, but I have done it before.
I had something coming back from them, and I called UPS and has it stopped at the UPS terminalt o pick it up. Then another time I tried it, and they said, no way!

Then you're hearing wrong. It's not like the buyer is receiving the wrong product, as you implied above. (At least, not that we know of yet.)
Nobody is saying the OP doesn't deserve to be refunded the shipping cost. If they were promised delivery by a certain date, and it didn't happen, then of course a full refund is in order.
What people are saying--but you're not hearing--is that if one is to avoid risking disappointment, then make sure you PLAN AHEAD and BE PREPARED because S*** HAPPENS. I believe that is something even the OP can agree with.
Interestingly, I think if slip-ups like this are sufficiently common, it almost becomes an arbitrage opportunity. Next day shipping is not cheap...if a company can't deliver on their promises and ends up having to do multiple full refunds, you bet they're going to clean up their act real quick, or you'll have a lot of customers getting free 2-day air....Show more →
Wicker, not to split hairs, but it is the same thing. Next day shipping IS also a product. If he pays for next day air and gets next week ground, that's a different product, and he has every right to be pissed.

I have no doubt that you will refund his shipping, but if I were him I'd push for more than refunded shipping. The inconvenience alone for some folks (don't know his situation other than he wanted to shoot at his daughter's event) is enough for them to maybe not want to order again.
I have to pay state use tax on anything I buy online, so I end up buying from PA to save the hassle. It's a shame really that there's not too many places left where you can walk in and preview equipment, speak with someone in person and you have to order online or on the phone.
To be fair though, I've not been let down by adorama.

Everyone has their own opinion on this; the OP posted that he placed an order requesting overnight shipping and that the item didn't arrive the following day. Then the OP contacted me by email.
With respect - to everybody's views on this issue, on Adorama as a company, on individual experiences with Adorama - it is 9:50 on Sunday morning. While I am working from home today, the people I need to speak to about this may still be struggling to get into the office through 16 inches of snow.

UPS
A signature is required upon delivery. Packages can not be rerouted or picked up from UPS. Please make sure that someone will be at the shipping destination to receive the package and sign for it.

Things go wrong everywhere occasionally; you only hear the unusual bad stories on forums like this. Its not like B&H, etc always gets it right.
Very true. In the 13 years and six digits of purchases from B&H, a shipping snafu like this happened once (and it didn't lead to sheer and utter devastation on my end because I wasn't relying on nothing getting messed up - on any level). In the far shorter period of time, and at least one digit less in purchases from Adorama it's a different story. And I don't seem to be alone. Again, nobody is perfect, I sure am not either, but that's not a different topic.
I also experienced delays in shipping with Adorama. They seem to have system problem. I have been using B&H exclusively until recently that I am checking Amazon first. When Amazon has it, I use Amazon. They are just better than anyone in Shipping. And I'm a Prime member so the 2nd day is Free.
