Sorry. I was not talking about recent experiences.

As I stated above, provided an order is for an in-stock item, there are no verification issues, and the carrier actually arrives with sufficient space to collect packages, any order placed Monday to Thursday before 6pm will go out that night.

Changes were instituted by our warehouse manager several months ago to make this happen.

Helen, you are doing a fine job. The odd sqeaky wheel whining about their own bad planning is to be expected.

You talk about 'Christmas' in your posts yet your website is well on 'holiday' mode.

Can we not say 'Christmas' anymore? 'Holiday' is such bollocks.

When FedEx left the Tag that your signature is required:

I'm usually at work when FedEx delivers. On Avery mailing peel-off label, I wrote down the tracking # and my Signature. On a separate yellow sticky, I told FedEx man to peel off the label and use it as my signature. I paper clipper them with the original FedEx tag and hung at the door. Bravo, FedEx man left the package !

Oh, I wasn't aware that Adorama CS person is here. I don't see a point in your denying customers experiences ! I had my bad experiences. So did others. And none of us has any incentive to make up those stories.

Coming from England where the use of the term 'Christmas Lights' has been outlawed as 'politically incorrect', I am inclined to agree - except that we just celebrated Hanukkah; at the risk of offending somebody by exclusion, in December many people may also be celebrating St. Nicholas Day, Bodhi Day, Al Hijra, Virgin of Guadalupe, Santa Lucia Day, Ashura, Las Posadas or Kwanzaa.

I am sure everyone is aware of Murphy's law. It sure works as expected every time.

I am sure Helen will take care the mishap about refunding the expedited shipping fee. But what happened is happened already. Your 20D should do a fine job. Imaging a couple of year ago when 5D II has not come out yet, you would be glad to use 20D and enjoy the result. I am sure you can do the same now.

Then please email me about them. If I don't know, I can't help!

I had one unfortunate pricing issue on a D700 and up popped Helen Oster who calmed down a very angry customer and made things quite right. Stuff happens, plain and simple. I have had issues with B&H, Adorama, Calumet, and J&R but they all made it right. I feel sorry for Mpaul, I have tried to make that clear, but to claim that issues never occur is not real. They do and for me the manner of resolution is quite important. Times change as do companies and their management personnel. Adorama is on my list of vendors and will stay there in no small part due to Helen.

Finally I have some information back. Martin's order was picked and packed at 4pm - ample time to go out overnight as promised (and part of it did indeed go out).

However, later that afternoon the camera order was changed from body only to kit.
This would have required a further authorization prior to picking and packing a second order - which took it past the cut-off time for shipping out that evening.

reading this mystery is so much better than tv ! all of the twists in the plot, and the late revelation that the o.p. had made a late change on the order (didn't see that one coming...). when the o.p. changed the order, did he check that it would still leave that day?

i've never used adorama, but they've certainly been around long enough that there must be a few people happy with their service. i have had shipping "snafus" with b&h and more recently with amazon (courier and amazon blamed each other), and with countless other shipments from around the world. as many people have already said, "stuff" happens. but, regardless of which shipping i chose, i treated it only as an indication, not a promise (too many things can happen to a package to australia!)

a lot of bad will directed to adorama here. i wonder how many of us are truly innocent of stuffing up something at work that inconveniences a client or custmer i know i've done it, and then what is important is how i fix it.

top marks to helen oster for her responses to the problem and to the various complaints above.

hope the o.p. enjoyed the ballet concert regardless of which camera he had

Oh well, it looks like the o.p. overlooked something himself...

So we didn't know the whole story from the beginning. Glad Helen could tell the other side of story now.

Following this thread has been very illuminating regarding the professionalism and maturity of the various individuals posting their viewpoints.

IMO, having to represent the public face of a company is a thankless job in situations like these, because those with an axe to grind will never dare concede that they were wrong should the evidence reveal no fault on the retailer's part. No apologies, just more vitriol. And all that does is reflect poorly on the person with the biased agenda.

Mistakes do happen. It's unreasonable to claim that they don't or that one shouldn't expect them to. One company can be more reliable than another but that still doesn't mean you ought to expect perfection from either.

My oh my, Helen, that gave me a chuckle.
You have yourself good holidays and a prosperous year 2010.

+1 while we expect everything to be perfect, chances are, one way or another we'll be saddened.

Not Adorama, but BH has frustrated me on multiple occasions.

Oh, now Martin ( and some others ) have agenda, grinding axes ? Why would they ?
It really doesn't matter if he changed the order or not. This is what he said earlier.
" It is obvious from looking back at it that they just told me what I wanted to hear (you WILL get it tomorrow) caring more about getting the $2700 order than really being able to fulfill a promise that the sales guy probably knew he could not keep. I have learned the hard way, unfortunately."
Helen, you should check with the sales person first what was committed before making an already poor customer insulted again.

2700 is the body only. The kit is more, I assume.

At this point I am completely willing to believe Helen. I _do_ know from personal experience that their phone reps will tell the customer whatever they want to hear, but unlike the OP I don't go on fora afterwards and either modify stories (which I now believe) or at least try to blame their own lack of common sense on someone else's failing.

Instead, I vote with my feet. Adorama has lost 10k from me in the past 3 months because of a similar snafu in August. I think that's more effective.
