It also depends the time of day you ordered it...most places have a 'shipped same day if ordered by...' time, otherwise it will be the next day that they ship it, and you'll receive it the 'next day'.

This reasoning makes absolutely no sense to me. It's just inviting trouble. It comes down to this: Why take the chance? Accidents happen. There are a zillion different ways in which the OP can miss out on getting the shot. This is not about pointing fingers; it is about minimizing risk where it can be minimized.

Sure, the OP has the "right" to wait until the very last minute, but does that mean it is SENSIBLE? No!

Your analogy is also nonsensical. A more appropriate analogy is if you are approaching a traffic intersection and out of the corner of your eye, you see a car in cross traffic approaching rapidly with no signs of slowing down. The light is green, and has been green the entire time for you. You have the right of way. Should you insist on it? You legally have it. But why take the risk? Why invite disaster--just to be able to say you were right and someone else was wrong?

Unfortunately, the op chose an unreliable seller to begin with. It's not surprising that Adorama did not deliver. I once had a similar problem with them, and not even during a busy time of year. I even had a situation where Adorama sold a camera I had already bought to someone else and then notified me it was no longer available.

I don't do business with Adorama anymore. Haven't bought anything from them in 3 years.

It sounds to me like you have an axe to grind with Adorama, and this is the reason for your bias. You have every right to dislike them. But it does not change the fact that the sole responsibility of being prepared for an event lies with the OP.

I will shoot it with the 20D the best I can. I will not use Adorama again, and will insist they refund me for overnight shipping. It is obvious from looking back at it that they just told me what I wanted to hear (you WILL get it tomorrow) caring more about getting the $2700 order than really being able to fulfill a promise that the sales guy probably knew he could not keep. I have learned the hard way, unfortunately.

Surely a one-day rental of a 50D or 5D or 5D2 is not out of your means? If the event truly means that much to you, you should do it.

I put all my $$$$ into the 5DMK2. I can't afford to now rent. I did leave it last minute and that was a bad call, and it was obviously a bad call to trust Adorama.

What time did you order it? If you ordered at 8AM, then it should have been any problem getting it out later that day. There is a cut off time for one day shipping which I think is 1PM.

I ordered in time. I also ordered a 16GB Lexar CF Card in the same order. They got that to me today, but no camera! And it was in stock.

Also, someone best be at home when UPS comes to sign for the package. Because Adorama will not let you change the delivery so you can pick it up. I bought a lens and camera from them one time and I work all day and never home when UPS comes. Any other time UPS will leave a note with a phone # and I call UPS so I can pick it up. Not with Adorama, when I called UPS they said I could not pick it up because it has to be delivered to the shipping address only and signed for there. So I had to call Adorama and make them call UPS to tell them to let me pick it up (which took 2 more days) or I'd send the package back to them for a refund. They did but said they will not be responsible if someone else takes the UPS note and picks it up. Which has never happened to me.

Yes and tell everyone you dont trust Adorama blah blah blah, please tell us who you will trust to deliver your next last minute notion on one of the busyest weeks of the year for any distributer.

It could have been any first rated reseller!

The fact of the matter is that he requested the "Next Day Delivery", and the vendor said "yes".
He should be refunded for the shipping charge. That's that.

The matter that he waited until the last day is a different/irrelevant subject here.

As far as vendors making mistakes....it happens....but at a cost of reliability being rated upon.

No, all he did was take the order, punch it in and move on th the next call. Adorama is at fault and Shit happens and it could have happened from any of the top resellers out there.

I called prior to ordering online to make sure that I was not too late to receive the camera next day. He said I was not and encouraged me to use his sales ID # when ordering so that he could deal with all the paper work to MAKE SURE it happened. I called him back after I had placed the order on the website to make sure he received it. It sounded like to me he did not even remember me, but assured me everything was good and it would be shipped that day for me to receive it tomorrow. Can you see why I am very frustrated with them?

My advice is to contact Helen Oster and relate this information to her, so that she can at least assist you with refunding your shipping charges. That's about as much as you can do at this point, unfortunately.

A "real" top seller will refund the cost of the next day shipping. Adorama screwed up...they need to refund.

No west coast.

It has been assigned a tracking number. This is from the UPS site. Does this mean it is coming tomorrow?
