I don't need very high resolution. I don't need high FPS. I don't need pro AF. I just want a resonable priced full-frame body. Sony A850 satisfies my need. If not because of my L lenses, I'll get A850 right away.

Why not get a EOS 5D then? New 5D are selling for less than $2K...

However a550 has new 14.2MP sensor which might form basis of a D400 sensor? Not much of a jump in pixels (which is good) but might mean excellent noise control.
My worry with the 7D is if it still has a strong AA filter again we'll see little improvement in detail like 50D. I hope you can actually see the 18MP is of more use than just cropping.
However, I like to see true ISO 50 and L be reserved for ISO 25.
Not sure if that 14.2 MP sensor is back-lit.
You are absolutely right about that AA filter thing. Fingers crossed it'll be thin like the 1000D despite some reviewers' (Imaging Resource) negative criticisms.
I heard ISO 50 as base ISO is an engineering hurdle.

The new Sony A850 is full-frame and will be sold for $2000.
Nikon D700 is full-frame and has been well known for a good AF system.
Canon will disappoint many of us by announcing a 7D with a cropped-sensor. They are likely to lose some market share to Sony and Nikon because of this.
I hope the rumors and the posted pictures turn out to be fake.
Now let's just think about how Sony competed with Nintendo and Sega.
The 7D is not your FF Rebel, and it's not the end for Canon. If you want a FF Canon, you'll have to pay, for now.

I'd speculate that for the 50D Canon reused the AA filter of the 450D or maybe even the 40D.
If the new 18mp sensor is a new design, the hope is that it will come with its own AA filter optimized for 18mp.
I'm even wondering if a sensor with this pixel density still needs an AA filter.

let me know if you want to sell your L lens.
seriously, you should consider 5D if you just want a resonable priced full-frame body.

Why don't you buy a 5D then It has what you want and you can get it for a very low price also

Do you have info on the 17-55, where it has L designs internally?
Strictly speaking there is no such thing as an L design per se, every lens needs its own specific type of design, but at the time of the 17-55 they really hadn't used much in the way of low dispersion glass or fancy aspherical elements outside of L lenses, which the 17-55 has. Basically the 17-55 is sharper than 24-70L,24-105L and uses exotic elements and is priced as if it were an L. Aside from non-L outer construction I don't see anything different from a typical L.

In the results, that's where. It's well known that the IQ of the 17-55IS is of L quality.
I was specifically meaning where there was a note, or document stating that the lens has the designs of L lenses. If it does, I wonder what other lenses do.
The results don't tell me that, because I've owned Non-L lenses that performed very, very well. I just meant more specifically if like Canon used say different glass elements in the L's over the other ones. Something that doesn't change the IQ of the lenses I already own, or will own, or that others own, just something I'm wondering. For whatever reason I like to know odd crap.
I did a brief glance over the pages, and didn't see it. What's the price point for this? Maybe that can point us more in the direction of 1.6 or 1.3 (the only reason I suggest a possible 1.3, is MAYBE an adjustment, that EF-S lenses could be used on it). Not saying it would happen, just trying to figure out. Though I don't like the rumors and speculation, I have to admit i get drawn into it.

umm used 5D?
you don't need very high res, fps, pro AF, liveview, etc. why the heck not get a used 5D for half the price of the A850??
