To each their own. It's just tacky to have to tape those down but almost a necessity for some. I'll take a 100% VF over pop up flash any day.
Hmmm how would they fit a pop up flash and a FF viewfinder in a camera? I bet the viewfinder is as high as a skyscraper.
My bet is on a 1.6 crop (possibly 1.3?) camera with the same AF as the 5D MK II, 3 inch OLED screen, pro waterproofing. Ladies and gentlemen, we have our "3D".

The ability of the D700 to use the on-body flash as a slave trigger is one of the many really valuable things that put that camera in a different league than the 5D.

Well, the 1 series is their top of the line.
Than they have the 5d MII
If this 7d is real, then I believe it's safe to assume that it's probably a model considered "inferior" to the 5d MII.
Now we can only speculate as to whatever canon considers as being "inferior".
