I've seen what sells - here and in most of the rest of the country. I am not isolated from what's popular in photography as much as you may be surprised by that. If the old-school photos were all that bad then no one would be selling them as there would be no buyers.
But that's not the case is it? Serg is one guy selling to some friends compared to Yeun Li that has studios in multiple states. You tell me why more people choose Yuen Li over serg. I don't think Yuen Li is selling by putting a gun to people's heads - it's that people actually LIKE that style of photography!

Did you just call me an idiot because I said I am happy with my senior portraits Sergio took? Prof Fate, you can go fuck yourself.
Ya know ... I've been posting actively on this board for 5-odd years and I've seen the F - word used less than 5 times.. where is a moderator when you need him?
And can we all be a little more courteous? If you feel insulted by another poster, just ignore or block him from view.
time will tell about Serg's work....if his age is correct, i will assume that his 60 seniors that he photographed went to school with him. i would be curious how his sales will be after his old school mates graduate.

I'm responding to posts. Oh, I mean, attacks. And while I may not change any minds mine is still open. I can't say the same for all the posters here, can you?
Your mind is anything but open. You are in this thread trashing a kid who does things differently than you, only because they are different. Last I checked that would show that you have a CLOSED mind. And BTW, don't go calling people idiots when in fact you seem to be the idiot here. Just curious, where did you go to college?

If he passes as a senior photographer in his time, he would be a killer commercial photographer to shoot something in that field. Of course his vision will mature more as time continues but I am curious to see where Sergio will be in 5 years. It kinda worries me as he might be a competitor of mine when I get out of college!!!

No. I said he needs to learn more posing. That' not trashing.
He said he's "mastered sales" - I said that's amazing as most folks spend a lifetime trying to do that and he's done it before graduating HS.
The above comment is part of why I say he's at the age where he knows it all. I said see me in 5 years and lets see how you feel then.
And I don't look up someone's age when they post pics. Either you can shoot or you can't - age has nothing to do with it. He's putting his work out there, charging money for it - so either he can take a critique or he's not going to last. Not everyone will love his work - and I think he's OK with that.

The amount of sour grapes in this thread is ridiculous. So many people telling the OP why his work shouldn't sell when it does...after realizing he does make money, telling him that 'they won't have staying power in 5/10/15 years' (because you all know what his clients will feel in that time)...assuming a youth wouldn't know how to take strong photographs (check his site)...it just seems like a tizzy over someone stealing their clients with work that they do not want to try to understand or appreciate. If a Jackson Pollock doesn't make sense to you, or you don't like it, is it not art? Not valuable? These are abstract photos of Sergs', but no less valid then Strobist lighting tricks or rule of thirds composed shots.
And who the **** are you? A forum alt? GTFO. ...Show more →
Haha, and you are... his father?
I'm not bitter, and honestly, I could give two flips less. I was simply giving my opinion which is obviously too much for you to handle. You're obviously one of those who can't stand it when people don't like your work.
He is a punk kid and his holier than thou I've got nothing left to learn attitude is a clear indicator of that. I don't like his pictures or attitude (and yours for that matter). Get over it and accept it.

none of this really matters. i should get a philosophy degree! PS -- i graduated highschool already.
I just noticed something too. You are making money at your age and plenty of it. Thats something great to say to everyone on this forum. What were you doing at Sergio's age? Did you own a business and did something you love? I was in your shoes at that age (im only 20 so its not that far away), and its the reason why I am doing this major/career. I can't be without photography.

Can you show me some examples of his alleged attitude? All I've seen so far childish rage from the so-called adults.
This is lame. We are here to post photographs, not discuss the merits of someones age versus his business sense, and lasting power.
I think the photos are great - and speaking from a place of post-high school, post-undergrad, about to be post-MFA, I think Sergio has a fantastic eye. Even if you were to take off the color shifts, and processing, his sense of composition is dynamic, and anything but stale.
Get to the bottom of it, and this is what your left with -- the people that love Sergio's style are the people that are obviously paying him for their portraits/weddings. He's happy - their happy, no one else matters!!!

your biggest argument is that my images don't sell. in reality, its quite the contrary, so i can't take anything you have said with any level of serious consideration, because you simply don't know what sells.
keep in mind that amidst all of the commentary there is plenty of good critique, but i dont feel the need to address it, aside from a general "Thanks". i've read it, thought about it, and its all good.
you're just wrong. its not about you. and because of that you can't really speak an ounce of truth on the matter.
I had to stop there (around page 5) because I simply couldn't stand reading his arrogant posts anymore.
And apparently if someone puts your pictures on Facebook/Myspace it means you do really great work! Hmm....Really?
