You are not Serge so why do you care what I say about his art? How does my critique of his work affect you in any way what so ever?

I am not your mommy and this isn't art therapy class. It is not my job to feed your ego or massage your opinion of yourself or your art. I said he would do well to learn posing. Yes he did. He claimed to be a master of sales. And if he's selling shots of bums to HS seniors then I suppose he is. He also said somthing to the effect he has nothing to learn. That is another way of saying he knows everything there is to know!
As to how Serge will feel and think in 5 years is just a guess on my part. Based on living life. Based on having been his age and now I'm not. Based on EVERYONE i've ever met that was once 18 and is now older.

Sergio = artist
Photographer = homeowner, business man, employer, tax payer, no desire left wanting
artist = misunderstood, starving, living at home, still searching for the meaning of it all, many unfulfilled desires
I've been the latter and the former is soooo much better.
Honest question Sergio. Do your clients like the blog? Anyone else can chime on this too. I am considering wordpressing it up and building my own for this summer. It looks fun to show off the images of each senior. Do you ask each senior/wedding couple if you could post it or you just do it.

What seems to work depends a bit on you do it. If you shoot and then post a few teasers to the blog before the proofs are shown to the senior you get him and his friends hitting your blog.
For weddings it works great too - shoot an eSession and post some pics and the bride and all her girl friends will go look and show all their coworkers, etc. After the wedding it's not as big a deal if you post the images online for sale as everyone from teh wedding will go there rather than the blog to see them.

I'm responding to posts. Oh, I mean, attacks. And while I may not change any minds mine is still open. I can't say the same for all the posters here, can you?
Excepting a comment or two I think Serge and I have done well - why all the other interlopers feel the need to crash in I don't know.
Serg I think knows and understands that his work is different than mine, his market is different. I can't approach a senior the way he can, but I then he can't approach the parents of a senior the way I can. He's got somethings to work on IMO, but then we all do - I know I do (go ahead, take a cheap shot, show your immaturity - 'you' being anyone reading this post). I think he has talent, an eye, and with some study will no doubt turn out to be a more successful photographer than I. He's got the first thing figured out - how to get the money from the client's pocket into his. The rest, the photography part, is easy after that.

See, this is what I'm talking about. You do everything literally and by the book. That is boring. Your work looks like the work of the type of photographer we read bitching and moaning that these young whipper snappers are taking all the jobs away from you.
Maybe your standard "missionary style" photographer still sells in your neck of the woods, but for the younger "big city" types, they want something different. Hell, I'm 35 and if I could do my senior shots over again, I'd hire someone like Serge. My senior photos look like they could have been shot by Prof_Fate. Considering they were done in 1990, that's not necessarily a good thing.
I'll take Serge's "doggy style, one leg over the shoulder, finger in the butt" photos.
Oh, and I seriously doubt you were an artist. Maybe you thought you were and you weren't that good - therefore you were starving and living at home with mama. Maybe you're just a better businessman. There's no shame in that. There are a lot of photographers around here that suck, but still manage to make money.
Bottom line really is that you both have different styles that both sell to their target markets. You're both making money and happy about that.
Prof - your photos are technically good, but I just think they're 'ho-hum'. I personally love seeing work that is fresh and different. Serge pushes the creative envelope and I can't wait to see how he develops and evolves as a photographer and artist.

this has got to be the stupidest post i've read on FM.
tell me what is soooo different about Serg's work? If you look at the photo, and not the PP......he is doing nothing different except the fact that he is focusing on other subjects besides the one paying the bill. although i'm not crazy about Pro Fate's images neither, the only difference between Serg's and Pro fate's is the lighting and PP....
well the fact that Pro Fate has a better rate of focusing on his subject. The lighting Pro Fate had attempted is more difficult that Serg's and actually had more detail that Serg's.
I'd like to see Serg and Pro Fate's images prior to PP.

I've seen what sells - here and in most of the rest of the country. I am not isolated from what's popular in photography as much as you may be surprised by that. If the old-school photos were all that bad then no one would be selling them as there would be no buyers.
But that's not the case is it? Serg is one guy selling to some friends compared to Yeun Li that has studios in multiple states. You tell me why more people choose Yuen Li over serg. I don't think Yuen Li is selling by putting a gun to people's heads - it's that people actually LIKE that style of photography!
