Can someone do me a favor please and confirm if my shutter sound is normal? It sounds sort-of grindy and LOUD, and I can actually FEEL the vibration of the shutter movement in my hands!

Is that normal, or does someone have a sound clip of the 5D MKII shutter? Just a little paranoid here!

Hmmm ... that's not how I would describe it.

Ok, was that sound clip shot with another 5 II because I have been wanting to see more moving pictures with the 5 II. Please tell me it was. I thought the sound was well rendered and I liked the action. Oh please say it was a 5D II doing the movie.

I'm just going to assume I'm just more sensitive to noise and vibration that others, and that my camera isn't about to bite the dust prematurely. (heck even Mode 1 and Mode 2 Live View shutter sounds are noisy as heck to me). Be nice if I had another MKII to compare it to. *sigh* Nothing like getting $2,700 paranoid.

WD40 does wonders. It penetrates and lubes all in one!

Is this a serious post? Well, no I find the 5D2 shutter fairly quiet, and I don't feel anything really. A little mirror slap, but not much. Certainly no grindy noise. The noise is very slick and mechanical.

probably depends upon what you are used to.

having mostly used xxD recently, I was a bit taken aback by the way the 5DMkII shutter sounded and how much it shook the body compared to the little APS-C mirrors.

I don't recall the EOS 650 or Rebel 2000 being quite this sort either, but it's been a while

or the 1dmkii's for that matter

never touched a 1Ds of any sort of the original 5D or the upper level film bodies

anyway it sounds disconcerting in the sense that some of the other cams sound like this when they are about to fail hah but I know this is how it is supposed to sound so I don't really care in the slightest, but I could see how someone coming from some of the other cams could be afraid their unit was about to break or something heh, but to them I say, honestly, no worries, chillax hah.

I'm a little bit surprised the shake through the body is as strong as it feels for just a 4fps FF cam.

I just done a video test to see how long I could shoot video with my "Slow" Ultra II card.

My 4Gb Ultra II Card lasted 14 mins and only stopped because the card was full.

The camera had no problems with the buffer being filled.

I don't really see why you would need a UDMA card, A Ultra II Or Extreme III Card should be fine for video.

I thought the Extreme III's are too slow to record video? The camera's buffer fills up faster than it can write to the CF.

I wonder which cards people are using to shoot vid.

I just bought 3 Extreme III 8GB (30mb/s version) from B&H with that rebate. Rob G. rates them just slightly over 1mb/s slower than the Extreme IV's and slightly less than 2mb/s than the new Ducati (sp??) (17mb/s -19mb/s on average) - Granted, the real throughput is much slower than the advertised speed while in camera. But using the RG tests in a 1DsMKIII that supports UDMA, the rates compared favorably.

BTW: In my MKII manual it states that 8Mb/s card is required to shoot video.

I tested one in my 5D MK II shooting about 6min of continuous video with no problems..

Got 3 cards for $94 (including shipping)...and receiving a $70 rebate (Visa) - Use it for gas or groceries I suppose. . $24ish is not bad for 24GB of Extreme III (30mb edition) CF cards with lifetime warranties.

Thank you! It's definitely disconcerting, but from what you're saying it appears to be normal. I know that even compared to my 5D, this is VERY different, and definitely more shake noticeable.

How can you buy 3 Extreme III 8GB (30mb/s version) from B&H for $94 (including shipping)? They are listed at $59.95 each.

Here's a 5D2 pic from last night:
ISO 1600 : f 7.1 : 1/50 sec : 135L
No PP, straight out of the camera (all NR off in camera).
CS4 to DNG to Lightroom...and back to CS4...resize for web.
Cheers,
Scott

maybe on the left side of someone's brain?

I read about half of the referenced thread and all I saw was, could be, might be, I think, seems like, ...

this could all be pilot error for all I know. but then, I just picked mine up yesterday and will have it out today with a charged battery and several lenses. initial tests are dot-free except the blue dot on the box.

Ugh!
couldn't resist no more, flashed my cc, 5D2 here I come

Dealer said 40-ish in queue but confirmed 75 cams coming in on tuesday (dang just realized forgot to ask if that was just bodies or kit). Choosing pay-when-in-stock means I can cancel order if waiting becomes boring

They did deliver my 1D2 long before most pro's got theirs so it's still is a fair chance.....

I can confirm that the weather sealing works!

I went out earlier tonight down to a local beach, And I had been shooting in the sand and surf, So I thought I would give my tripod a quick wash under the beach showers, Well someone had messed around with the shower head, And instead of it spraying down and onto my tripod, It sprayed sideways and onto my 5D2 that was hanging over my shoulder!

But I shot with the camera for another 2 hours after it got wet, And it's working fine. I did get a scare when I went back to the car to make sure it was still working only to see a warning message pop up saying "Memory Card full" when I turned it on!
