I think all the L lenses come with hoods... all the ones I've purchased have.
I may have been mistaken on my 24-105 but I know for a fact my 17-40 was sans hood. That was way back when a Canon n00b. coulda saved a few bucks by bitchin.
I think that's more like ZOMG OH NOES!!!!111!!!eleventy!!11!!!
Only 2% of early adopters have even gotten their cameras yet, and already we've found a problem that is supposedly endemic to every 5d mkII. This will keep the tinfoil hat "Canon is out to shaft us / it's another mkIIII " contingent in business through at least April.
I guess on the up-side, given how long the backlog for the camera is, maybe those of us who are 1348th in line will get "black dot" factory refurbs when ours finally ship in July.
Now you'll excuse me while I grab some popcorn, put on my helmet, and wait for the flamewars to start.

I'm sort of glad ours in Canada are delayed. I get to first read up on the problems before I decide

Eventually some people learn it's not always best to be the very first to get a new high tech device. We need a good name for the black dot thing. "My new 5D II has CANON POX" or something. This should be fun to watch!
Can someone do me a favor please and confirm if my shutter sound is normal? It sounds sort-of grindy and LOUD, and I can actually FEEL the vibration of the shutter movement in my hands!
Is that normal, or does someone have a sound clip of the 5D MKII shutter? Just a little paranoid here!

Is this a serious post? Well, no I find the 5D2 shutter fairly quiet, and I don't feel anything really. A little mirror slap, but not much. Certainly no grindy noise. The noise is very slick and mechanical.

That's the pepper.mill.v.1.0 feature. That sound you hear is it trying (and failing) to grind the black pixels extra small, before sprinkling them on the sensor. Yours is obviously defective; I bet you'll see little black spots if you pixel peep as a result.
Well, I found a sound clip on Youtube of the 5D MKII, and yes, that's "sort-of" how my MKII sounds.
As you can hear, the shutter sound is pretty darn awful. I know it's irrelevant in terms of capturing pictures, but I think the 5D MKII shutter sound is the worst I've heard out of the Canon 40D, 50D, 5D, XSi, XTi, and of course the 5D MKII. Maybe it's because it's a heavier-duty shutter than the other listed models?
Either way, ick, it sounds awful, and the slight vibration through the body is disconcerting to say the least, even with the 24-105 attached!
