Great story Ray! He put a lot of miles on for our troops, didn't he?! I spent a few days with him back in the 80's...............
Yes he did and I watched every Christmas Show he did since I can remember. It was a stomach churning few hours to think this young kid who had loved to watch those shows had just put the kibosh on a few of those performances. They were cranking the engines when I left work that morning headed to the dorm, and that made me smile.
Another aircraft model I worked on: (I am running out of photos!)
Delivered the architectural images to my client in Chicago early this morning, 75 highly styled perspectives in 3 days! Got me thinking about the old days of 4x5, that shoot would have taken a lot longer and the in camera color correction alone would have been a nightmare.

Indeed he did Jim! I never had the opportunity of going to any of his shows while "in-country". But those who did smiled for days! He, and his troop, were "thee" morale boost for Vietnam troops!
Thank you for all the supportive comments. This corner of the internet is truly a special place.
I've not posted for a while, I even realised the other day I've not picked up a camera in 16 months.
I do drop by once in a while to check how everyone's doing, and hope that I'll soon be back to sharing images again. Like for many 2020 has been a tough year.
However recognising I was in a dark place, I knew exactly where to come to share my grief and restore some faith.
Your comments mean a lot, I'll be forever grateful
what a wonderful compliment to all the great human beings that make MA2A what it is. I, for one, am honored and humbled by your post. "stiff upper lip...." as you folks across the pond say, it will get better.

James, I wasn't around the last couple of days to express my condolences, I'm so sorry for your loss. Most of us have been there more than once, it will get better even though you will always remember.
I've always found your photography inspiring, I hope you'll soon be back at it. We're all thinking of you.
Just put two D810s with grips / RRS L brackets in B&S if anybody maybe interested...always make a special deal for a MA2A'ers! These bodies have a knack for getting over rated full prop discs!

James,
" Grief is a Highly Individual, Nonlinear Process
Grief is a Healing Process
Grief can be an Isolating Process
Grief can be a Transformative Process"
James your grief is a highly individual emotion! Most of us have endured this at some point in our lives!
It is growth!
Stay safe brother!

Funny, "back in the day", a photographer who shot more than one subject area was ridiculed and thought to be a "jack of all trades/master of none". When I started my little venture I was so inexperienced that I didn't know the "rules" (fortunately) and figured that anything was fair game if you could shoot it well. In fact, photography was so specialized at that time that people would shoot interior architectural work, but not exterior and vice versa. I thought that was all very odd, why would you lose business because you didn't want to walk outside and shoot the project you were already shooting inside? One time I was submitting a proposal to a client and they were interviewing photographers in person. The guy ahead of me mentioned that he noticed me in the lobby and volunteered that "Jim Wilson is not a 'pure' architectural photographer", ostensibly because I shot a variety of subjects. Apparently that didn't matter a great deal to the potential client because I go the bid and still shoot for them 40 years later. Sometimes not knowing the rules is a good thing...................
Some people are jealous that a photographer can be competent in many aspects of photography Jim. The guy ahead of you needs to get his head out of his six!
It is called "multi-tasking"! You are a master at this Jim!!!

I must say I do like that front of that counter ( Is that the right word ) in your Interior photo.
And what a strange thing to say that about some body else that is pure envy i think.
I think it always work in your favour if you are more capable covering more then one subject.
Maybe you did mentioned it once long ago, but what did you make going into the photo business.
Or did you already took photo's when you were young?
I have had a camera in my hands since late grade school, but never had any intention of going pro with it. When we came to Texas in the late 70's it was to continue and already decade long career in marketing with Caterpillar Tractor. After a year here it was clear that it was going to be very difficult to work amongst the family gun battle that was in full swing so I decided and the Good Lord told me to pick up my camera and strike out into the world of commercial photography. I felt like that would be a pretty impossible jump, but "Impossible" is what He specializes in and He has reminded me of that many times over the last four decades.....actually as recently as this morning.
