Hi Jan-Arie
Alls well this end. Thanks.I hope alls well with you too.
Been very busy with loads of major building works and trying to downsize etc. Being of the vulnerable age, self-isolating, not going out (very often).
Hey-Ho, the new normal I guess...

Chandler called me last night to see if I could go to Sulphur Springs with him for a flight lesson. I had a bunch of things that I needed to do today to get ready for a big video production tomorrow so I said I was sorry but couldn't. I thought about it for about five minutes and came to the conclusion that I should do whatever it took to make memories with him today so I called him back and told him to swing by and get me and we'd fly the Cub over. My instincts were spot on, we had a wonderful flight over and back, even if I did get stuck with the bumpiest and the worst wind leg. Chili did his lesson, then we all went to lunch while they changed the oil in my Cub. When we returned his instructor asked if it would be ok if he and Chandler took the Cub for an hour to work on his tailwheel endorsement. Quite a milestone as I stood on the grass and watched my Grandson taxi out and take off in 7PC (doesn't stand for politically correct All of our time together in the cub apparently sunk in because Chandler took off and shot a half dozen landings in a pretty brisk 90 degree crosswind. His instructor held both hands up as they went by each time and gave me a double thumbs up. Today was filled with memories that I would have really hated to miss, glad I played hooky..................
That's the spirit... they won't remember Grandpa working, but they will remember the times you spent with them. Friends of one my sons are still talking about having long chats with my husband, and how they miss them...

Greetings Dear Folks
To those who may remember me:
Just to let y'all know that I am still above ground & annoying folk. Doing very little aviation stuff now.
How lovely to see Jim's thread still very active.

At last …… When I signed you off sick the chit said 5 days not 5 years. Staff issues …. again. Have you downsized Gray Towers – or are you just making the existing smaller? I know what you mean by “loads of major building works”. Hopefully the small thermonuclear device won't be needed this time. Welcome home!

Dear Jim, I herby give you full and unrestricted permission to play hooky anytime you like. There – Sorted! All I ask is that you have fun.
NightOwl: Thanks for the welcome back, It's good to be back
Nick: We had the wall twix kitchen & dining room taken down to make a large kitchen/diner - all new mod cons etc, new electrics. Age crept up on me and kicked me in the rear - walking a problem but if that is all, hell, I'm glad to be alive and well at 81 years!
I remember borrowing one of your 400L lenses and even offered to buy it from you... no need now, I managed to acquire a 100-400L - took many photos of dicky birds in our back garden during lockdown.
Next time thos way again, stop by for another BBQ.
Not my best but one I am immensely proud of;
A Spitfire flying over our local hospital last week. For those who don't know, NHS = National Health Service. Here in the UK, Medical treatment is FREE. The Doctors, Nurses and staff are all NHS staff.
Turns out that my tried and true supplier here in Dallas is the only one that I can really trust to give me the correct story. The R5 that was waiting for accessories in Austin was imaginary, the accessories are waiting for an R5 as well. Live and learn,. I called Competitive this morning and they had all the accessories in stocks I zipped down and got them, the R5 itself will be in presently.
Canon released this firmware update early today as well, mine will probably ship with it already installed:
I've got two jets in East Texas to shoot that I would love to have the R5 for but I don't think it will get here soon enough, but just this morning I got 15 more jets to shoot and it'll be in for those. Several of those jets will be air to air over Caribbean waters which I'm looking very forward to, welcome back "life"!

I've been using Competitive since the days when they were over in Garland just up the street from E-Systems where I worked at the time. They've never failed me.
Me too Rob, great folks! I met the Austin dealer six or seven years ago when I needed my first Sony cinema camera. Competitive can get some of those cameras but they aren't a dealer for them therefore support is somewhat limited. I've gotten all my cinema gear from Austin and they told me that they had my R5 in hand, just waiting for accessories. Turns out they have zip in hand and they were hoping the timing all worked out. I let three R5's with my name on them go by one because someone needed it worse than I did and two because I had committed to Austin, silly me.

A month ago SMSall Rig announced a new "cage" design for the Canon 1DX MKIII, and the R5. I've never had a cage because none really seemed to be functional for my work. I ordered both cages, the MKIII version arrived today, very cool! I'm going to dedicate one MKIII to this set up so I can just pull it out of the case when the need arises.
Holy smoke Jim!!!! Looks like something out of "Transformers"!!!!
I would need to go back to weightlifting to raise this to shoot!
Your thread is a true legacy of progress in both photography but in flight as well!!!
I remember when it got "lost". A "phoenix" arose!!
Hope all is week with you and family. Hope all the great posters here are well and safe.
