I spent a couple of hours dialing in the 1DX MKIII/SmallRig setup this evening, lot's of technique developing will be necessary to fully exploit the capabilities but it's amazing for sure. the 20Mp sensor not withstanding, it's really something. This was 560mm handheld in low light...................
I continue to try to do things that are not possible…… My quest to learn to do urban nightscapes has many frustrations – one of them is incorporating the Milky Way core. My problem is that I can only occasionally, just about, see the darn thing. Having done a little reading, it turns out that I live in a Bortle 7 or 6 region, and that I’m not supposed to be able to see the Milky Way! Now they tell me…. However, I find if I navigate by bright objects – mainly planets – the camera can see what I’m after. So to summarise, I can’t see my background until after I take the pictures, and I can’t see my foreground subject until I light paint it. Never mind, it keeps me amused.

Eek ….. not long ago that would have been impossible. Now it’s “just” very difficult. Real progress continues.
Hi all, been a while since I've been around these parts, hope life is treating you all well. Glad to see the quality of the photography and chat have not diminished!
Afraid to say I've not picked up a camera in about 6 months, hope to change that in the coming weeks.
Flight training has resumed after c-19 lock down, and despite the UK weather doing it's best to disrupt proceedings, I finally completed my first solo flight today. Boyhood dream fulfilled!!!
My latest post, I talked about my shooting routine and how it helps me capture images more consistently. Curious to know if any of you guys have such a routine?
Greetings Dear Folks
To those who may remember me:
Just to let y'all know that I am still above ground & annoying folk. Doing very little aviation stuff now.
How lovely to see Jim's thread still very active.
