J-A, beautiful image. Love the processing.

Regarding Fifi, I was at Martin State Airport today when Fifi and Diamond Lil came in, I believe escorted by the local A-10's. Unfortunately I didn't know they were coming and I was inside and missed the whole thing. I've never seen a B-29 in the air, and I can't believe I missed it.

On the bright side, we had a client executive visiting. Former F-14 pilot and history buff. I understand they came in just as he arrived, so a great experience for him.

(Ack, need a TOPP).

It's been a busy spring around here. Our daughter Catherine graduated Salem State University, so both kids are done now (although she's starting grad courses to work towards her Master's in psychology.)

L-R: Son Dan, wife Chris, Cat, and me:

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with my winters now that she won't be playing hockey anymore. For the last 9 fall/winters, she's been on skates at least 6 days a week. I guess it's time to move on, but I am so going to miss it.

I actually do know what I'm going to do, as I plan to shoot the Salem women at least one more year (11 seniors I know well), and I'll keep doing the two high schools.

Last week Salem State actually offered me a job as the official athletic department photographer. I would have loved to do it, but I just don't have time. Fifteen teams in fall, winter, and spring (tennis, golf, soccer, lacrosse, hockey, basketball, baseball, softball, etc). Head shots and game shots of each athlete. Unfortunately they can't pay much, I figure it would have come to less than $10 an hour. Plus I don't have insurance. Even if they could pay me four times what they offered, I couldn't do it.

Still, pretty flattered that they would consider me.

Thank you Jim, that means a lot.

If I was retired, I might have taken them up on the offer, but I just can't devote that much time, plus I would have to take time off from my real job. Besides action shots, I currently also do senior portraits that we frame and present to the players on senior night. The men's hockey coach saw them, and he asked if I could do them for his team next year. He even offered to pay me. First off, I don't want the coach to have to pay out of his own pocket, plus I was worried about the time commitment even for this. The men don't typically play the same days as the women, so I'd have to make special trips to the rink, plus shoot enough games to get good shots of each senior. Here is Cat's senior portrait. I print them 11x14, add a mat that the girls all sign, then assemble the frames just in time for presentation. I do this for the high school seniors as well.

That team photo is a composite using a method I learned on the sports forum. The players are a cutout from a normal photo shot at center ice. I add the background, a black floor, and a reflection. Not visible here is the team logo I also add, because it just won't fit in the portrait format I'm using. Here is the full team photo:

Nice work Mark, can you make that process an action, at least some of it, to reduce time spent?

Thanks all.

The most time-consuming part is doing the cutout for the team photo, but I only need to do that once. For the senior portraits, I use the previous year as a template for the new season. Everything is in layers. Goes pretty quickly.

Really the time spent is in getting the photos to begin with. Probably four hours per game between travel, shooting, and processing. Depending on the number of seniors (and how much they play), I need two or three games to get enough good shots.

I could manage the men's hockey team (except I'm also doing two high schools and the women at the same time). I just don't want to charge the coach (plus I don't think he could afford to pay me what I think my time is worth), and I don't want to do it for free where I don't have any connection. So the easiest thing to do is politely decline, I think.

Mark

Indeed! Base model with the monitor will be $13,000. Actually, in perspective, that's 2 grand less than a loaded iMac Pro. Still, that's rarified air for sure. I imagine it will be a screaming machine for cinema work though.

I visited the Volandia Museum, close to the Milano Malpensa airport. They have been working closely with AgustaWestland with interesting results.

Agusta started building helicopters under Bell license, then it tried to launch original projects, but it took almost a decade before the A109 became their first original, successful design.

Before the A109 there were many failed attempts and now Volandia is trying to bring back to life some prototypes from the sixties. The Agusta A104 was already carefully restored:

Recently more unique pieces has been placed on display. They still need love:
