We walked 2 miles home from school in 100°+ temps with 100% humidity and mosquitoes flying all around carrying your school books. With cold weather, you can always layer up and be warm. When you have to wear long pants and collared shirts and leather shoes, not much you can do to stay cool. Couldn't wear Converse or Keds because the the rubber souls would melt on the sidewalks. I remember stoping at a friends home to drink water out of the garden hose. Then, in those same temps, add rain. I had to pay the school for a new spelling book because mine fell in a mud puddle. Then, when December-February we had those wonderful 80° days that were so nice...until it rained.
Update to my absurd Apple experience. I called Apple Customer Service and went over the part where Apple added insult to injury and charged me a grand in sales tax. The guy was very apologetic, even gave me a handful of teh peripherals that I ordered, but unfortunately he had no power to make the tax thing right. What he did do, and apparently it was the only thing that could be done within the corporate structure, was issue return labels for everything that I purchased. I have to pack it all up and ship it back, then they will credit me for everything and I can purchase it all again, which I am seriously reconsidering. I just wiped the 16" MacBook Pro and am putting it back in the box, but I'm not going to go through all of that with the Cinema monitor.
Apparently, in following their instructions to a tee, when I ordered online, putting in all my Apple credentials, they decided to create the sale to me personally and not my business. I lost discounts and paid tax thanks to their incompetence. I'm so ticked that I'm having to reason with myself to discern the difference between punishing them and punishing myself.
All, Thanks for the input! Certainly a lot to learn and many alternatives.
Jim, Jan-Arie, Douglas,
I agree the frequent updates is a very nice feature and attractive to me. In less than 2 years I will likely move into a mirror-less camera and my current LR6 is too out to date to support that. And I have been reading about the new noise reduction, face recognition, AI content removal tools, etc and that is getting pretty enticing. Going to go that way as much as I don't like subscriptions that is how Adobe is doing business.
Pete, thanks for the tip on ON1. That was some interesting reading as well, it appears to be a very good program as well but I think I'm going to stay with LR & Ps for 2 reasons. First is the familiarity with LR, I am slow to learn new programs. Always have been, I admirer people who learn new software quickly but that's not me. Second is that several reviews said that ON1 is better for professionals and has some nice flexibility / configuration flexibility but if you are a hobbyist LR / Ps is easier for the infrequent user (that's me). As Jim would say, "We Be Seeing"
And Danpb, if you have a yearly subscription with Adobe there is no change. They are changing the offerings for those on monthly subscriptions; LR / Ps is going from $9.99 to $15.99 so that is a bit more significant. I'll just do the yearly subscription to avoid that.
We are so much alike............................. To bad we don't live closer, we could commiserate with a couple nice Whiskey's and start teasing each other till we laugh. Cause in situations like this there is little else to do. At least they are going to take it all back and let you reset the clock so to speak but damn, that is just more time and $$$$.
Sorry for the struggles. It just takes all the fun out of what should be a fun experience with new toys.

I had my elementary schools days in Toronto... had to walk a mile to school in the snow, and it was uphill both ways
But really, I do remember that we had to cross a field and the snow as up past the knees, and we trudged on like good little soldiers, going to learn the metric system

The new tools are exciting Dan!
The new "Remove Tool" is tremendous!
No more cables, power lines, ugly tree branches...the tool removes them clean and clear with NO destructive elements to the main image!
The new "Dehaze" is also great!
Snow there?
We appear to have your storm on Monday! Nuts!!!!
I dont mind snow but at 77 1/2 unless I have to shovel it or fire up my snow blower!

Speaking of snow... and aviation. Below is a picture taken by my son on close to TD at Sion, Switzerland LSGS (ICAO), He and his colleague are on a 15 day trip throughout Western/Central Europe and then, on a VERY westerly routing over Egypt, ultimately ending up in Saudi Arabia. The plane is the company's new G6500 Bombardier. He apologizes for the glare on the windscreen, but thought it was something that you all would enjoy as much as his old man. I have his permission to post here. There will be couple more of the en route mountain scenery. Brings tears to my eyes when I remember back in the 70's and 80's teaching him how to fly, while saying, as I have before "ya know, you could make a career doing this" (as he flew the right seat of the Mooney 231 Turbo I had rented). Enjoy.
Looks like your son could have had a couple of careers! That is an incredible shot Tony! Keep them coming. Good job planting the seed, that's the way it should work! Happy New Year!!
Thanks so much, Jim. Planting the seed indeed, he and I have now setup his son, my grandson, with XPlane 12. Got him rigged up with the Logitech flight controls for a Christmas present, 34" widescreen OLED monitor, and he's LOVIN' it. And the best of New Year's to you as well.

Happy New Year brother!
Beautiful approach!!!! Beautiful scenery!!!
Snow arriving tonight into tomorrow!
Bitter cold with 20-40mph winds whistling around the trees and house! Brrrrrrr! Don't mind cold but snow I hate only because I have to shovel it!
The glare adds to the emotion of a landing approach!!
S/F!

First sunrise of 2025. May you all have a happy and healthy 2025. The second picture is the Arlington National Cemetery with wreaths in front of the headstones.

Looks like tomorrow will be your "snow wish" Douglas!
South of us is expecting more than here! They, weather people, can't really say how much. A few miles N or S will make a huge difference!
Snow approaching from the SW is always huge!!!
Have fun, be careful....
Dan
Stay safe and enjoy the beautiful scenery for a few hours. This storm actually went south of us in Iowa, we just had the cold and clouds. It has been a chance to just catch up on all sorts of stuff that needed to be done inside the house.

5" on the ground and still coming down. Beautiful to look at but a new wood floor was supposed to be started today...No way! Handyman will be here Wednesday now!
Knowing Douglas, he is at Arlington now! Got to give him kudos for treking out in this mess! DC and places to the S and SW/SE of us is getting hit pretty hard.

Hi Dan,
So far (3:30 PM Monday) we got about 7", we may still get another inch or two before it's over tonight. No, I didn't go to Arlington Cemetery today, in fact I didn't go anywhere other than shoveling my driveway. The light is poor and too much hassle to drive before the roads are completely cleared. Tomorrow at sunrise I want to shoot the red barn at the Shrine of St. Anthony, got to watch out for icy patches on the roads that early in the morning! I am planning to go to Arlington Cemetery at sunrise on Wednesday, the snow will still be there. They probably get 9 or 10 inches. Too bad the snow doesn't stick on the trees this time, making it a bit less pretty.

The roads up here were a MESS!!!!!
The County had to get a front end loader with a snow blade to clear our County road. Called a "road grader" around here.
Luckily a neighbor helped shovel my 200ft driveway!! Then some "angel of god" came during the early dark morning and re-cleared my driveway and salted it! There will be a special place in the "afterlife" for that person!
Yes it will be VERY cold through the weekend!
Have fun!

Make me a big cup of coffee, be there tomorrow am to shoot with you guys for a few days.
Coffee and a donut here brother!
Bitter cold but very sunny!
Had an addtl 1-2" during the early night...some "angel of god" came this dark morning and re-cleared and salted my driveway(200ft).
It IS beautiful , the landscape not my driveway! ()in the dawn's early light!!! It , snow, will be here for awhile with temps not out of the 20's-30's for a few weeks!
I was on a 15 hour shoot just north of Austin yesterday, sunny but a cold biting NW wind. While I was waiting for my sunset shots I saw these Vultures searching for a snack. The AF capabilities of teh R5II, coupled with the incredible RF600/4 just amaze me. These guys were flying in and out of the branches, foreground/background, a million things to confuse the AF, but it stuck like glue.
The second image has branches in front of, and all around the bird, and the II never lost the subject.
Despite the cold and dicey winds, my drone performed flawlessly on this project, right through dusk. The client is beyond thrilled. The first perspective was from a park that was a pretty good distance from the project, up over tall trees on the bluff and in twilight light. I had to call Mike B. for a dose of courage to fly that mission.
Earlier in the day, while scouting and flying from the same location, a guy walking his dog admonished me for flying drones "because it might scare people". I was polite and explained what I was doing and why, he glibly said, "well I would hate for someone to shoot that down with a 12 Gauge to which I replied, "me too, but that would be a felony and I would see that "someone" would get buried under the jail for doing that", he continued walking.
