Just beautiful Douglas!
Happy New Year to you and yours also brother!
Dan
Thank you Dan! Happy New Year! There is snow in the forecast for Monday, if it comes through, I may go to ANC on Tuesday morning to do some shooting. ANC+wreaths+snow is most photogenic.
Need a little guidance. I am running an older version of Light room, LR6 to be exact. Have been trying to avoid the annual subscription thing if I am totally honest. And don't need the newer versions since my camera's are 6D, 1Dx MKII, and 5DIV.
But I am hearing after January 15th costs will be increasing on the Adobe products, but you can still lock in the LR Classic and PS for $120/yr, it seems the monthly rate increases or won't be offered at all. From what I have read the LR Classic has many upgrades over LR6 that I would likely learn to use and the newer AI tools for PS would be a welcome plus. Am I thinking this correct or is there other options I should be considering? Remember, for me this is just a hobby and not a business adventure of sorts so I'm not getting much return on investment other than thousands of photos that we just enjoy thumbing through and something to keep me learning when I want to avoid that working thing for a few hours here and there.
Happy New Year Dan! I'm going to have to let some of the guys give you counsel on whether to subscribe or not. I think I am way too far into the commercial realm to be able to give you an unbiased opinion. One thing that I will say, it's awfully nice to get the almost daily app update information that subscribing allows. The features of the subscription are uncountable, as much time as I spend in PS, Camera RAW, Bridge and LR, I still don't begin to scrape the surface of what is available. I remember way back when a fulll blown set of Adobe PS dvd's would set one back about $500, the current subscription rate is a bargain, and a deduction for me.

I don't use it as much But I pay $ 12,44 a month $149,29 Yearly.
I think it's a reasonable price for what you get, that being said I don't know what everybody's budget is.
And like Jim says '' I still don't begin to scrape the surface of what is available ''

Hi Dan, I have been using LR for 15 years since photography became a serious (and expensive) hobby, I think I am fairly proficient with LR but I know maybe 2% of Photoshop's functions. I only use PS to remove unwanted stuff in the frame. I must say the new PS AI removal function is very very good. I think the monthly subscription fee is well worth it to me. LR and and PS keep adding new features, some are very useful, some are not, at least to me. The convenience of the new features don't really have anything to do with how old you camera are. I am thinking of cancelling my Flikr subscription though. I do enjoy looking at my pictures in high resolution on Flikr but I haven't uploaded pictures to Flikr as frequent as in the past, maybe it's telling me I should drop it.

I have a Ps yearly subscription but Adobe has not said anything about a price increase. I too only use 5% of all the new "bells and whistles" they make.
I would like to "get out" also! There is NO return on my investment either Dan!
Would be interested on member feedback on this!
See my old FT Dodge area had snow!! We are supposed to have a storm Monday
Anything over a few inches and I have a 150ft-200ft driveway to shovel. The kids nowadays dont come knockin' to shovel driveways for money. I made mucho denaro in Iowa as a kid shovelling snow!!
Happy New Year and good luck!
Dan

You wanted feedback, Dan, so here you go....😁
I used to do the Adobe Photography yearly subscription, LR, PS, BR, etc. but decided to go with an alternative. I looked at several, and decided on ON1. https://www.on1.com/
To me, it is most like Lightroom, and the conversion from Lightroom to ON1 wasn't too bad. There's a sale price right now, US$49.99. Their website says it expires today, but I believe you can get discount codes from several YouTubers. And it will probably go on sale again through out the year.

Flew to Illinois....."The Belly of the Beast", for Sheila's sister's wedding yesterday. Can't believe that I lived in this climate for decades, and I mean both climates .The state is so far underwater financially that, regardless of the usurious taxation, they can't make a dent in the deficit. My brother says he is going to have to leave and move to Wisconsin because things are so bad, but he will vote the same way he did in Illinois.................this isn't very difficult to figure out if one spends a few minutes on it. Governor Pritzger has the solution though, massive tax bills, Old Honest Abe must be on the East Coast by now via rolling over in his grave. Oh yeah, in the gun free zone of Cook County, only 1 person was killed and 13 were wounded over this past weekend. I guess one could assume that the gun ban isn't working, but the fact the criminals are crummy shots is helping somewhat.
When I left DFW it was 78 degrees, Illinois greeted me with gusts to 50 and 37 degrees. Needless to say, I have the nose pointed south. I need to start using my outside voice when I tell people that I do not shoot weddings............

Welcome to the "Snow Belt" Jim!!!!
Born and spent 10 years in Iowa!
I remember snow from Thanksgiving to Easter.
Never had school called off due to snow like here in Mary-land!
I didn't have shoes to walk about 3/4 mile to school either!
Loved the snow and cold!
Illinois is a different "charlie-foxtrot"!
Sorry the Midwest left you "cold"!
Happy New Year!
Dan

Gotta say, the RF24-105Z was the absolute perfect optic for a wedding, saved me hauling anything else. R5II, RF24-105Z, iso 1600, travelled light.
I do not shoot weddings, but since I offered, I was asked to shoot my cousins' wedding this past Monday. Shot with the 24-105Z and it was used for 90% of the shots. I little of the 15-35 and 100-300 mixed in, but the 24-105 is absolutely stunning. I initially used some fill flash, but eventually went with whatever natural light was + Auto ISO, and the images have been gorgeous.
Side Note.. I need to chat with you about OWC things
My assignment today was an early afternoon women's basketball game. Since it was an early game I was able to play during the second half. I took by R5C and 50mm f:1.2 just to see what I could do. This gym is one of the darker gyms I shoot in. I set it at f:1.2 with a 1/1250 shutter and auto ISO (ISO=2500). Yes, I sent it through LR Denoise.

I had my elementary schools days in Toronto... had to walk a mile to school in the snow, and it was uphill both ways
But really, I do remember that we had to cross a field and the snow as up past the knees, and we trudged on like good little soldiers, going to learn the metric system
